Akinomaki 39,535 Posted May 12, 2016 Hakuho decided to stick it to the crowd with the Shodai call. and for again an extra shove escaped suspension for next basho - this time. The shimpan department declared they saw it as happening in the flow.http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2016/05/12/0009074290.shtml?pg=
Washuyama 634 Posted May 12, 2016 ...Kisenosato will finish 13-2. I'm guessing 11 wins. Maybe 12 if someone else (read Hakuho) goes zensho. Kise has yet to prove he can handle the pressure.
Kintamayama 44,230 Posted May 12, 2016 Someone killed Goeidou before last basho and took his skin. It is hard to believe that this is the same guy who was constantly struggling, basically against anyone. Kotoshigiku's Yusho must have lit fire to both Kisenosato and Goeidou, there is not other explanation here. I kind of wish that Kisenosato actually gets his 14-1 this basho but I think Goeidou will ruin it for him and that Kisenosato will finish 13-2. No explanation?? Really? We know the Mongolians are allowing this to happen after being asked by the Kyokai to tone it down a notch.

Mongolians did allow Kotoshogiku to be the first japanese yusho winner in 10 years, as a gift. How could I forget that Kotoshogiku and other japanese people have no talent, willpower or skills to win, and only do so when the great and mighty Mongolian Regime so decrees. Silly me. specialweek 2 136 Posted May 12, 2016 When is it safe for me to do my customary 'told you so' post on Goeido, then? Like all good judges, before it happens. Curious, what is with your signature blog link?

Jakusotsu 5,741 Posted May 12, 2016 Are we talking about the same Goeido who just got lucky at least twice so far this basho?

808morgan 805 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) Aminishiki's surgery seems to have been successful as he is has updated his blog this evening. He has publicly stated that he is NOT retiring and plans to come back as soon as possible. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1645131.html In the past there were several rikishi came back after similar injury but all of them rested for multiple bashoes. If Ami makes it, he will probably have to start from makushita. We can't loose Aminishiki so soon (well not soon), it wouldn't be the same without him! Bad enough Kyokutenho is gone! Aminishiki and Toyonoshima make my day. Edited May 12, 2016 by 808morgan
ScottyJoyJrBebe 97 Posted May 12, 2016 So.....not to break subject.....but is there any reason why we no longer get the HHHHUUUU!!!! yet still have the Koto-Bauer routine? Not that I'm going against the Geek, but the HHHHUUUU!!!! was REALLY catching on last basho. my 2 cent question for the day

The shimpan department declared they saw it as happening in the flow.http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2016/05/12/0009074290.shtml?pg=2 I think what they're seeing from him compared to last basho is that he's making sure to "help" his opponents back up after he finishes them off. I get that the judging department doesn't want to stir controversy by actually suspending him, but all it's going to take is another injured wrestler or shimpan before something's got to give. dingo 1,119 Posted May 12, 2016 But never fear, Goeidou is working tirelessly to fill that gap. Can we name a new rank after him? The "Goeido" rank would also solve all future issues about what to do with those sanyaku who get 32 wins or an 8-7 in their Ozeki runs. Now we could just declare it a Goeido run instead. The only weak point of this plan is what to do with rikishi who get 31 wins...

Last Basho I stopped due to the 12-3 showing.
WAKATAKE 2,614 Posted May 12, 2016 Well Hakuho certainly fit a more blatant extra shove in against Kaisei today, makes that two days in a row. NHK conveniently missed that one, I bet the judging department and the members of the YDC who were in the crowd will conveniently miss that one too.

Well... shall this mean that this is my first prediction to become true already that early? I predict: - One act of behaviour of Hakuho on the dohyo will lead to much discussion :) Err... actually it would be the second, I think: - Akinomaki will tell us all about the silly stuff you can buy at fan shops in Kokugikan Have fun with your Sumo-Snoopy!^^
WAKATAKE 2,614 Posted May 12, 2016 The non-enforcement of the judging department continues. Tomozuna chief judge dismissed the extra shove by Hakuho against Kaisei as "something not to make a fuss over," while chairman of the YDC Moriya noted, "Today was a 'dameoshi.' I'm not saying 'dameoshi' is that bad, but spectators could get hurt. He [Hakuho] needs to think about that when he is going sumo." http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1646134.html

Sometimes the "dameoshi" can't be avoided because the rikishi will not watch his opponent's feet to check whether his opponent is out or not but keep offending to ensure he wins. Dwale 419 Posted May 12, 2016 Hoo, boy, I bet that slam woke Shodai right the **** up. Goeido looking very game this basho, I'm hoping he keeps it up. Kisenosato looking good, like usual. He's not the flashiest guy out there, but just so strong with his footwork. Hakuho with an extra shove, again. -.- Makes me just not want to watch him. Tournaments starting to warm up, but not hot yet in my estimation. That'll be soon, though.
rzombie1988 157 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) Just caught day 3. Kaisei/Goeido was one of the worst sumo matches I've ever seen. Not even Kaisei B out there, it's Kaisei C. Hated to see Ichinojo beat Harumafuji as he's gonna start thinking this bullshit stalling stuff works. And I will be seriously pissed if Kisenosato gets a Yokozuna promotion without a tournament win. Haven't they learned from Futahaguro? Just saw Day 4 and Hakuho did another disgusting shove. I used to really like and respect him but I honestly root against him now. He's a soft bully now. hamcornheinz 839 Posted May 12, 2016 I think Hakuho just forgot that the goal is to push your opponent out of the ring, not off the dohyo. That's all, no blame.
Katooshu 3,079 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) Hakuho just being Hakuho; it seems like late shoves are a compulsion for him. Are Teru's best days behind him at 24? It's painful to watch him struggling like this.... And as usual I'm loving the juryo action. The newcomers are doing well, and Sato (who in his 68 bouts has yet to win by yorikiri) is on fire. Chiyonokuni's speed has been overwhelming his competition and along with being the co-leader he looks in good position for a makuuchi return next basho. It's been tough stuff for recent makuuchi competitors Kitataiki, Kagayaki, and Akiseyama though, as they have just 2 wins between them. I notice that Kagayaki is a bit Gagamaru like in that he seems to have poor balance and often struggles with lateral movement. One of my favorite matches from day 5.....the great escape: Edited May 12, 2016 by Katooshu
RabidJohn 1,632 Posted May 12, 2016 Haven't they learned from Futahaguro and Kakuryu? What's Kakuryu done wrong for you to lump him in with Futahaguro? Consecutive 14-1-D and 14-1Y meets the minimum requirement for Yokozuna promotion, and that's what Kakuryu did - which immediately places him well above the no-Yusho Futahaguro - and he's won another since promotion. Kakuryu ain't the best Yokozuna ever, that's for sure, but he ain't the worst either.

Wasn't a fan of breaking the standard of the two titles in a row that was set and he hasn't really done much to justify it since, other then a henka title win(against an injured Terunofuji and with Hakuho/Harumafuji out). Also had two 6 loss bashos and two 5 losses bashos since his promotion. If everyone is Yokozuna then it is meaningless. I've been against his promotion from the start and will always be.
