Fujisan 530 Posted May 8, 2016 I was interested in the room you use when on the computer(Internet) Without going in to great depth whats the most interesting part of the room that makes it different to anybody else's here? Anything unusual or just very personal to you? For instance- The room I am using also contains the biggest part of my 7000 comics I have collected for 35 years now...... When I first started collecting I wanted to have a room full to bursting with comics but now I have one I am not so sure.I cant move now without knocking a pile of comics over....3 times in the last few days I move my monitor and a pile of comics finished up dowh the back of the computer......(They have moved from the back of the monitor but still under the table and to the left of it) Would I ever sell them? Not a chance...,...
Jejima 1,300 Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) Our computer is in the corner of the living/TV/dining room/guest bedroom of our Hong Kong apartment. Edited May 8, 2016 by Jejima
Gurowake 3,875 Posted May 8, 2016 Behind me is the roll-top desk that my father used. The handles on the roll-top have come off, and it's tricky to open. If you open it, it's all filled with piles of papers we didn't know where to put but figured we should keep. The closet also has a file cabinet that has stuff actually somewhat organized. There's also a couple bookshelves with random junk, pictures, books, photo albums. The door to the room is windowed, 3x5, so while the room is code-compliant for a bedroom (closet, smoke detector), it's clearly was not intended to be one at any point in time. The window looks directly out onto the front porch, so I generally see and/or hear people at the door before they knock or ring.
Akinomaki 39,551 Posted May 8, 2016 Other than others think it looks like a mess there is nothing special - especially full of cables. But I won't be seeing it for a month now.
Jakusotsu 5,745 Posted May 8, 2016 I honestly don't know, because my eyes are always fixed on the screen.
inhashi 2,363 Posted May 8, 2016 I have 5 computers in my cozy little bedroom. Only one works, the one I'm using now. The others I've just never scrapped over the years and act as a makeshift shelf. My first and oldest machine I tried building from scratch with a help of a friend. We decided to abandon it after burning through three motherboards :/
orandashoho 720 Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) My wonderful rental bedsit apartment away from home is small and has a round table instead of a desk. Not handy on Home Office days when I need room for two computers and paperwork! So I got myself a small folding table that has just enough room for the second computer plus keyboard and space for moving the mouse. Problem solved. A place like this is great for instilling cleanup discipline. You have to clear away stuff or else the room looks cluttered. You need to have storage for everything or else you don't have the harmony to live. I guess Japanese people do understand what that is like. I am learning not to hoard. Not like my house, which is full of books with piles on floors and tables everywhere. And old computers that belong in a museum. Most unusual thing in the room (I suppose) -- http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c85/af224/shield_and_mace.jpg Edited May 8, 2016 by orandashoho
Mukonoso 273 Posted May 8, 2016 My man cave (aka den) contains a kotatsu, futon, bean bag chair, two TV and my legacy game console collection all the way back to Atari 2600. Also a large bookshelf with my RPG book collection and a large collection of WW2 photo books including several I picked up from Japan showing their images from the period. Fujisan 530 Posted May 9, 2016 Thanks guys,,,,,,, I understand the clutter thing but I am an hoarder I hate to chuck things out...... When I lived in a 4 room flat that wasn't a problem but now I basically live in one room its a problem..... This is made worse by the loss of my girlfriend a few years back.....I took a lot of personal stuff from her home that I can can never throw away and some of her sons stuff who died a year before her and I "inherited." Then 3 years ago my mom had a stroke and had to go into a care home so I took a lot of her stuff aswell..... I have effectively 4 peoples possessions(No furniture I had to draw the line somewhere) with extra space elsewhere in the house in 2 rooms..... And I.m still not chucking it out..... hamcornheinz 839 Posted May 9, 2016 I'm a hoarder as well. Also, I noticed most of you don't have your cpu's in your rooms. Thats probably a good idea, because I spend way too much time on my computer.
Manekineko 200 Posted May 9, 2016 My computer "room" is my bed, best place to work (really!) on my laptop while in mostly prone position, kinda like this guy.
Bugman 384 Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) My bedroom is fairly small, you can just about fit a wardrobe, single bed, a few shelves for my books and a desk for the pc in it. It used to have two single beds when my brother lived with me and i thought it cramped then, but since he moved out it feels quite lonely. The room is bare for the most part, i took down most of my posters and ornaments to redecorate, and i never bothered to put anything else up for some reason. There is one nice thing about it in that as i am on the roof of a block of flats, i'm high up enough to see a skyline and get the light of the sunsets to come through. It's not a very pretty horizon, but it's better than a kick in the balls, as my grandad used to say. Edited May 10, 2016 by Bugman

Kishinoyama 582 Posted May 10, 2016 The computer room is also the living room in my house. :-)
Pitinosato 116 Posted May 11, 2016 I have a room where I have my PC, Printer, telephone mainlines, my vaping Utensils, some boards for documents etc. The special things are a big calendar (Mercedes-Cars), a big map of the world, the pastel green wallpaper, and 4 Sumo small Figures (made of clay (?)) Kaio, Chiyotaikai, Musashimaru and Takamisakari standing on a small desk (thanks to Gaijingai who presented these figures to me (Applauding...) :-)) Pitinosato
Unkonoyama 104 Posted May 11, 2016 I live in a small apartment so the computer is in the same room with basically everything else except the kitchen and bathroom. I am very jealous of Mukonoso and hopefully once I buy a house I'll be allowed to set up something similar. I guess the most interesting thing in my room is the small freshwater aquarium. The most notable inhabitant is the greedy puffer whom my wife named "Maru".
d_golem 213 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) My computer room is basically anywhere, being a laptop user. Most likely it would be on the bed, sitting atop a small cardboard box to prevent it touching the bed sheet and overheat. My 3 year-old boy will use every ounce of strength he has to try and sit between me and the laptop, while my 6-month old daughter will invariably crawl from the other side of the bed towards my rubber mouse cord and proceed to munch it earnestly in her toothless mouth... Gernobono 447 Posted May 13, 2016 we live in some kind of loft, so our desktop-computer is in the big room like nearly anything else (but bathrooms and sleeping room)....best is that i have direct view of the berverage(beer)-fridge
Mukonoso 273 Posted May 15, 2016 I'm a recovering hoarder (father and one sister are worse than me though). I started to get over it thanks to Marie Kondo's book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing" (aka the KonMari Method). Hold every item and ask if it brings you joy. If not, then thank it for its service and donate or trash it. So far I've made it through the clothing section and gotten rid of about 3/4 of my wardrobe. Working on selling off many books from my humongous collection. Keeping only the RPGs I definitely want to play again, my WW2 photo histories and the fantasy novels I reread regularly. Paperwork shouldn't be a problem except for my wife not having time to sit with me and go through what she needs to keep, though my personal rule of thumb is anything over three years old is "shred"
