Dwale 419 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) It would be a lot easier to overlook Hakuho's indiscretions if only they didn't happen so often... -.- EDIT: And he's going to criticize Kotoyuki for barking? Psh. Good stuff today. I wanted that Amuuru v. Ichinojo match to be better than it was. I was like, "Ok, so Amuuru's going to make use of his mobility and...just...lose, ok." Ikioi in there looking cool against the oni, but I think my favorite win was Aminishiki's. Shohozan hasn't quite cracked the puzzle, it seems. I also just like to see, "Yeah, he's old and kneeless, but that's still a true rikishi in there." Edited March 16, 2016 by Dwale

ALAKTORN 346 Posted March 16, 2016 I really hope Giku or Ama will go and smack Hakuho around this basho. Heck even Kakuryuu should smack him around. I wish he finishes 11-4. Even better would be1 digit kachi-koshi. Hakuho needs to be smacked down a bit so he will stop his tantrums. Who knows? Maybe Ozekis will pounce on him this basho. You’re missing the fact that his tantrums are due to his loss of dominance. Losing more would just make him angrier. Did anybody else notice that kimarite correction announcement during the yumitorishiki? It’s the first time I hear that.

Atenzan 1,074 Posted March 16, 2016 You know what? I really like Kakuryuu. He is without a doubt the worst yokozuna we have had in some time, but he has earned that tsuna. 14-1Y 14-1D is and should be a sure promotion. I treat him like a good ozeki, as one would peak Kotooshu or Tochiazuma. The matter though isn't the rank, it's the rikishi. He seems an all-around good guy and I like his sumo. Kakuryuu is a pretty cool guy. "worst yokozuna" is unfair. Remember Wakanohana? Also it just so happens in the past 20 years we've had 5 dai yokozuna. Most aren't that dominate though. Look back to Chiyonofuji's era, which resembles our time more than the past 20 years. One dai yokozuna, and a few others who have 4 or 5 yusho and can still dominate just about everyone. Yep, I meant worst among the rikishi to gave earned the tsuna post-Wakanohana. (In my book 20 years is "quite some time"). Absolute respect to the guy though, I love him to bits, he's the most glorious singing Buddha that Ozumo could have ever wished for. Harumafuji and much more Kakuryuu have been served a bad hand in the form of Hakuho. This garners some extra respect for them from me just like Wajima did. 14 Yusho 14 Jun-Yusho was spectacular in the era of Kitanoumi dominance.

Kuroyama 715 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) You’re missing the fact that his tantrums are due to his loss of dominance. Losing more would just make him angrier. I've been quite certain for some time now that Hakuho's got some kind of mental issue going on, possibly related to a nagging injury. Many rikishi are used to fighting injured, but Hakuho has been so healthy for so long that it may seriously interfere with his mental game if his body is incapable of doing what he wants it to do. Since he's not accustomed to compensating for injury, he's reacting very, very badly, in more ways than one. That's my armchair, amateur, long-distance psychoanalysis, anyway. Edit: I happened to see him close up as he walked down the hanamichi after an unexpected loss at the 2008 Los Angeles jungyo, and he was visibly upset. The loss was utterly meaningless, but he was snarling and muttering to himself anyway. I've since taken him for a much more emotional person than he likes to show, or is acceptable to show in Japanese public life, particularly for a yokozuna. hamcornheinz 839 Posted March 17, 2016 You don't get to the top of a combat sport by being a nice guy.... if you can its a plus, but its a plus probably because its also much rarer. Remember when they polled the fans and he came up as their pick for second GOAT yokozuna, and Chiyonofuji the first? That must have miffed him a lot. Indicative of the whole Japanese perception of him being perhaps a bit unfair, in spite of him being so dominate for so long. I can imagine being angry if I were in his position. Jyuunomori 226 Posted March 17, 2016 Not gonna spoil but something happened in Makushita today which makes me incredibly happy. He is coming boys.Who? Brian? Nah, Ura! Ura is now 3-0, winning over Terutsuyoshi who is undoubtedly the toughest opponent he had left for this basho. Tochihiryu is not doing so well this basho so I will not count him. 1 or 2 more wins and he is in Juryo. He is coming. Ura's record is ridiculously impressibe in my opinion considering how high he has climbed so quickly. 35 wins and only 3 defeats. In his whole official career. Excluding playoffs. Also this is his 7th Basho. Also Iwasaki is coming like a dark horse or a ninja. His record is 3-0 also and total career record of: 36 wins and 9 defeats. This is his 8th Basho. Oosunaarashi is doing well as expected and is now leading the Juryo with 5-0.

Oosunaarashi is doing well as expected and is now leading the Juryo with 5-0. Or a dark ninja horse! What's japanese for dark ninja horse? That could be a way cool shikona for Iwasaki, don't you think?. And Ura? How about "crouching tiger"? You know, alluding to his low center of gravity and that wuxia movie that made Zhang Ziyi a sex symbol.... :P
d_golem 213 Posted March 17, 2016 Can Kisenosato do it?With him as the sole leader from sanyaku now, his collapse is surely imminent...Now, now, how can you be so pessimistic? If Giku can do it surely Kise can too? I reckon by end of the year we'll have the Mongolians up in arms about how they can't get the yushos that are supposedly theirs :-)

Jyuunomori 226 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) I am giving you a more likely Yusho winner in Makuuchi: I think Kotokamatani from Jonidan has better chance of winning Makuuchi Yusho in this basho than Kisenosato has. Edited March 17, 2016 by Jyuunomori
