Atenzan 1,074 Posted March 13, 2016 Shonichi well underway, and so far we have: Shodai hype train chugging on Amuuru yorikiri'ing at a 50kg disadvantage Mitakeumi being thrown about by Daishomaru Takanoiwa prevailing at an ersatz nage-no-uchi-ai uwatenage with Kaisei. Interesting stuff, no?
kuroimori 1,634 Posted March 13, 2016 Meanwhile in Juryo: Osunaarashi won against Seiro, while Endo lost against Jokoryu
kuroimori 1,634 Posted March 13, 2016 Further down the banzuke it is time for the first update on Homarenishiki: Ranked at Sandanme 64 East, Brody lost his first bout by yorikiri against Kasugamine
Atenzan 1,074 Posted March 13, 2016 Ikioi with a dominant, rapid oshidashi traps Aminishiki. Not sure who I was rooting for, I love both those guys.

Asashosakari 18,648 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Does anyone know if the sd 100 tsukedashi actually exist? No info on them in the sumoDB nor in the NSK site...Were they not there when you posted? Must've been added in the last few minutes when the Day 2 torikumi was posted on the Kyokai site. They're there now. Doitsuyama might still need to add them to the DB by hand. In a rather puzzling decision the two tsukedashi guys are facing each other right away tomorrow. Edited March 13, 2016 by Asashosakari

Atenzan 1,074 Posted March 13, 2016 There are columns named "east" and "west" on top of the banzuke table. The two sd100 TD are called sd100 east and west and the non-TD sd100 are called that as well. Not misleading at all.

Asashosakari 18,648 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Hakuhou has started training at the heya's new lodgings in Osaka today. After not getting the yusho for the last three basho, he seems raring to go. He had 30 bouts against Juryo Ishiura and others and was very active. "I've been facing day 1 a bit unprepared lately so this time around I am taking my time.." he said. That worked out well, then. First time since Kyushu 2003 Day 2 that multiple yokozuna lost to opponents ranked lower than ozeki. (Query) Edited March 13, 2016 by Asashosakari

On the banzuke and the hoshitori they're indistinguishable. Probably can't be helped due to the column format of those pages. (Quick heads-up to Doitsuyama: Their IDs are 3682 and 3683 if you want to add them before the full shindeshi rush.) Atenzan 1,074 Posted March 13, 2016 Yumitorishiki Satonofuji, fighting at Sd85e, has recorded his 40th career kimarite, kawazugake, at 38 years of age. His sumo seems very interesting and features numerous rare kimarite regularly. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi_kim.aspx?r=383

Jyuunomori 226 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Oh man what and exciting start for a new Basho. Shodai continues to look extremely strong. I fully expect him to kachi-koshi this basho as well. Wouldn't it be wild if he goes another 10-5? I would give him another kanto-sho if he did. Mitakeumi seems to still be injured, as is Endo back in Juryo. Kotoshogiku and Toyonoshima are both full of steam again. Especialy Toyonoshima, if he does as well as he did last basho we could be seeing him in the Yusho race. Kakuryuu & Hakuho fail miserably while Terunofuji & Goeido manage to snatch away some wins. Im upset at Yoshikaze losing to bumbling Aoiyama though, it looked like he wasn't ready. Brody losing breaks my heart and even if he slipped a bit at his tachiai his form looked better. And I expect Oosunaarashi crush Juryo. The whole lot. Curious to see Kotokamatani and Ura back in the lower divisions. Will they keep their momentum. GO URA GO! Edited March 13, 2016 by Jyuunomori
Morty 1,469 Posted March 13, 2016 Absolutely brilliant day of sumo in the top ranks. Lots of great matches. I was expecting to see a very, very motivated Kisenosato but I'm not sure that's what we got there. I thought the Geek yusho would really stoke him up but he looked hesitant, but at least he didn't do his day one losing trick. Let's see how he goes.
