Haru 2016 Rikishi Status - Final

Perhaps he demanded a less silly shikona and they refused.

Huh?

Shinshunishiki. Roll it about your mouth and feel the childishness flow through you.

Meanwhile, Shotenro has withdrawn from his Day 5 bout, no specific information in the press yet.

Reported to be due to acute lower back pain :-(
Two weeks estimated recovery time. With his precarious position at the bottom of juryo I'd normally guess he'll be back soon enough, but after his 1-3 start he's only a few kyujo days away from getting demoted for sure anyway...

It'll be a lot easier for him to make it back again next basho if he picks up 5 wins total; any less than that and he'll probably need a 7-0. So even if he's out for a few days and can't compete again until he's got 8 non-wins, there's plenty of reason to try.

34 and on a steady downward drift. His days are numbered.

I meant to kind of imply that, though - because he's already just a few missed days away from demotion due to his bad start, it's a pretty big task even just to collect those 4 needed wins for a 5-10 if he's only got 6 or 7 days for it after coming back. That's why I'm wondering if it's actually going to make sense to come back. Depends on how quickly he feels well again, of course.

Doesn't help that back pain seems to be the one thing that's not an outright injury that can still utterly incapacitate a rikishi. (Kaisei B comes to mind.)

Well, Nishinoshima probably doesn't feel it (and so didn't I) because it's a long u in shu, so Shin-shuu-nishiki. Doesn't roll all that funny. Now, Takayoshitoshi...

I think I just discovered the Kaisei Multiverse:

While we already had plenty of evidence that both Kaisei A and Kaisei B exist, there must be many other versions of him, because there is also a Kaisei O

Sad to see that Chiyonoumi had to pull out. But yeah, it seems people saw problems for him since he started Ozumo. I wonder why...

terunofuji going to pull out? Heard he's more hurt than he let's on.

to confirm, now that he's got his kachi-koshi he's safe from demotion, even if he goes kyujo?

btw, kyujo means to pull out from the basho right? for any amount of time? or does kyujo refer to a rikishi pulling out for all 15 days?

(sorry for all the questions :-p )

^You’re right on all points. Except for about Terunofuji, I have no idea what his situation is.
