Sokkenaiyama 64 Posted March 16, 2016 Oh, he's just playing tough. Between a solid pick in any sumo game and a pint, guess which he'll always pick. (Laughing...)

Pandaazuma 1,287 Posted March 16, 2016 Lol! No...it isn't torture and I am cool with it. Just genuinely enjoy playing the game and I feel I am still in it in spirit so I will play along this time! Go for the moral victory! It keeps your gaming instincts sharp! And as Martin says, a pint is sometimes the better choice!
Pandaazuma 1,287 Posted March 17, 2016 Still 'in' Chain! So I'll have Osuna again for day 6!
orandashoho 720 Posted March 17, 2016 Doing better than expected in SG... I really hope I can keep this up!
Gurowake 3,655 Posted March 17, 2016 Quota on Tochinoshin in Odd is 6.75 - and he's against Kakuryu, not Hakuho. I can't stay away, even though I know it's quite unlikely for him to pull it out.
chishafuwaku 460 Posted March 18, 2016 ODD SUMO: If we bet the 6 max quota we achieve 3564,78 (Taking a photo...) This is a record? chishafuwaku
Pandaazuma 1,287 Posted March 18, 2016 Well Odd Sumo's big bet didn't come off! Oh man, I'm totally gutted about Chain...I'd be in the remaining ten now! I don't care what the final Masters score at the end of this basho/year is...I'll be adding on my unofficial Chain score! I was literally begging Osuna to lose today! The only silver lining is that some of my World Champs rivals also went out. But Chisha and maybe Doitsu are still in there. Total travesty! :(
Sokkenaiyama 64 Posted March 18, 2016 Wasn't there a rule in Chaingang preventing picking the same guy more than 5 times or something like that to prevent cases exactly like Osunaarashi this basho? As for me, I'm enjoying a temporary surge of dominance in a few games - hadn't had that in a while. Speaking of which, I'd like to bother the Toto database wizards with another query: what's the highest shukun-sho score ever registered? I'm standing at an interesting 2.4/3 right now. Taka 33 Posted March 18, 2016 (edited) Hakubayama (Gurowake's opponent) picked Daieisho (!!!) today in SG which I thought was noteworthy. At least since he actually won (result oriented thinking and all) and so many had the totally opposite Ichinojo high or even highest today. I suppose it could have been a mistake, though he did put him in 10th spot, which in that case more unlucky for Gurowake Edited March 18, 2016 by Taka
Taka 33 Posted March 18, 2016 I don't know how much work it is digging up, but I would also be interested in something like the best Gino-sho scores in a Basho ever in Toto?
Taka 33 Posted March 18, 2016 I feel like I'm rolling in the daily games across the board the last few days with a good grasp of most things but of course it can change quickly underneath you whether it's change of luck or simply missing something changing in the Basho.

That's exactly how I feel right now. And I KNOW it will change at some point, it always does. I just hope it doesn't change until the end of this tournament. :-D
orandashoho 720 Posted March 18, 2016 First SG loss today. It was a bad day all round it seems, very low average score, which alleviates the disappointment a little I guess.
Pandaazuma 1,287 Posted March 18, 2016 For my continuing torture, I would have chosen Juryo's Chiyoo tomorrow for Chain! And I pray to the Almighty sumo gods that he loses!
Pandaazuma 1,287 Posted March 19, 2016 Huzzah! Chiyoo lost! Now I'm hoping all the other players go through (apart from poor Bunijiman, who made the same error I did).
Pandaazuma 1,287 Posted March 19, 2016 Panic over on the Chain front! I'd have lost 1 point! Now...back to the other games! In some sort of karmic exchange, the sumo gods gave me a win in TTT today when I thought I'd lost! I'd written 'Gaga' to lose instead of 'Kaga' on my notes! A nice bonus there as I am in the running. The pre-basho games are going south a bit, mostly because I don't have Ikioi in most of them. Was slightly concerned about his injury before the basho. Still....the basho is young! My jo'i picks have been disastrous so far: Tochinoshin and especially Takayasu. If they don't win out against the coming weaker opposition, I'll have to mostly rely on the dailies for Masters points. And lucky in Bench today...was surprised Moti put Shohozan in the points ahead of Ichinojo and Tochiozan. That's two days now I've had some major luck. How are you lot all doing? Sokkenaiyama 64 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) Not so bad. I reinforced my lead in Toto, ISP and Odd. A shaky second place in Tipspiel. Got some much needed wins in Sumo Game and Bench to finally rise above .500, but I'm not in the run for points there, anyway. In the pre-basho category, it's messy, but I should be able to get KK in most, if not all of them. But it's only day 7. The bottom line, though, is that it feels good to be back. I feel like I'm a more mature player now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a side note, it seems like this tournament is shaping up to be the highest scoring in history in Sumo Game. But, like I said, it's only day 7. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As yet another side note, that's some trap Norizo sprang in his own game, huh? The special question was answered correctly by just 3 players, and Norizo and Susanoo were among them (Taka was the crazy third). It kind of makes me feel like they knew something I didn't. orandashoho 720 Posted March 19, 2016 I'm not a major player, only playing in three games, all dailies. SG - doing fairly well, but that could all go down the tube like it did last basho. GKA - not so good since stepping off the train at station Reality. Bout Time - almost impossible of course, so I guess an even score is normal.
Gurowake 3,655 Posted March 19, 2016 How are you lot all doing? I have no idea in general because I try not to check standings, the only exception being Odd in the last few days for tactical considerations. I usually feel like I'm doing terrible and then up doing just well enough on average to do well. With Tochinoshin and Tochiozan not pulling off any upsets, I'm sure the pre-basho games are generally going poorly, but the only score the matters is the one at the end. (Laughing...) I'm absolutely not a fan of the special question at all. The only purpose it seems to serve is to give a few random people a bunch of points. I like pretty much every other aspect of the game, but that question really sours me. There's a similar issue with Vs. choices in that you don't know how much each choice might potentially be worth, but there it's not as big of a deal. I just in general am a huge anti-fan of having how many points you score based on what other people choose, because it almost encourages picking randomly. There is the 200 point cap that discourages picking something incredibly unlikely (plus there's also decreasing marginal utility of points that high, so it doesn't matter as much there's a cap), but there's still very good reason to pick what you think is likely to not happen simply because if it happens you'll get a huge rush of points whereas if the most likely thing happens, it'll barely make a dent. I figure there are enough people picking somewhat randomly that the most likely occurrence will be the highest expected value, partly because I doubt other people are running the numbers as thoroughly as I am to try to determine which is most likely and thus I doubt the picks will be overwhelmingly clustered on what I project as most likely. Tenshinhan 1,572 Posted March 19, 2016 A good basho for me so far, leading in SalaryCap and bout time. I lost the lead in Sandanme Game and PTYW yesterday but I expected that already. Also lost the co-lead in ISP today thanks to Myogiryu but am still co-leader in FAWL and "21". And the 2nd place in Tipspiel (together with Sokkenaiyama) is very cool but I will surely go further down in this game too. Me and Osunaarashi are also looking for some special prizes in the German game "Capture the Sagari". (Showing off...)
Taka 33 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) I quite enjoy Norizo's Cup and its questions and kinda regret not playing it for so long. I won't pretend to understand all possible nuances of the game yet - understanding the interesting questions 100 percent can be a first hindrance but without spending too much time on them my take on the process so far mostly is some kind of satisfactory experience when in my head handicapping the various answers. I think they quite often encourage some logical thinking (whether rightly or wrongly I like it when I think that I avoid something completely irrational even if its entertaining) and hopefully you can mostly come up with the goods and with some good fortune then reap some benefits. Regarding the special question, there was some vague special strategic considerations juggling likely vs unlikely and sure enough some implied odds if you will but of course I didn't expect just 3 people to make that particular pick and fortunately we all got very lucky. Maybe unfairly or unreasonably so but again I haven't studied the game all that closely and only jumped into it at the deep end (after avoiding it for a long time because the first time I played it years ago it made little sense to me) of last year as a last desperate measure in the world championship race. But it's a fun game I think! Edited March 19, 2016 by Taka
Taka 33 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) How are you lot all doing? Tough 10-9 loss in SG where you normally just shrug your shoulders at your opponent's nice jackpot and what are you gonna do but move on to the next very close bout but it was my 10th spot who lost and it was Hidenoumi who I normally would never pick (it could be the first time ever) and very often pick against. I didn't even get the idea before sort of glancing at some lineups when doing tippspiel and saw that people liked him, then on top of that also broke some of the sort of loose homebrewing rules, that I often end up following to somehow rule out some others (that proved popular picks with others) and then finally decide on Hidenoumi which proved fatal. A lot of things have to not go wrong in order to get a great win-loss record in top of makuuchi (and in general) and this was desperately close to a nice 6-1 start. The rest of the dailies continued to be good though with successes just about everywhere. Day 8 looks difficult and for starters compared to the rest of the Basho so far I absolutely hate my bench lineup and SQ selections. TT also sucks.
