Asahiyama-oyakata (former Sekiwake Kotonishiki) is gearing up for the opening of his own heya, set to happen at some point this year, by bringing in another uchideshi to Oguruma-beya - Badzorig Denzensanbo (very much my guess at that name), another Mongolian to have come through the Tottori Johoku high school route.

Apparently his hatsu dohyo will be in the Natsu basho, hence the new thread. He will take the shikona Asahiryu (朝日龍).

Another Mongolian youth in corporate sumo

Ichinojo showed a very efficient way to enter ozumo by winning the national corporate title and with that the makushita tsukedashi qualification.

Also from Tottori Johoku High, the next Mongolian is trying to follow that example:

He has gained 50 kg since he entered high school. Next are the West-Japan corporate championships, which he aims to win.

He was featured on an NHK local program last year and is called Jagi-kun, having come to Japan 8 months ago (aired last June).

Tottori local Ishiura had at least hand-shake duty.

He and Ichinojo also trained with their Tottori Johoku high juniors, also with a former, Mongolian, provincial sports association staff member Denzensambo (20), who tries to do the same as his senior Ichinojo, but hasn't made it this year.

He could have made it to the best 8 of corporate sumo to get at least sandanme tsukedshi status, I found only the top 4 so far

Apparently Denzensambuu didn't make it even to the best 8 of corporate sumo as (Tottori) provincial sports association staff member, else the sd100TD qualification should have been mentioned in the new article, which has some more background on him.

Now 120kg and still 20. He came to Japan in 2013, scouted by Tottori-high top sumo coach Ishiura, and has judo background.

His sumo style is migi-yotsu, specialty uwatenage He was in the yusho team of the high school selection Usa tournament as 3rd year in 2014 and 3rd in the individuals: "I want to do fierce sumo like Asashoryu and want to become a yokozuna loved like Hakuho."

Asahiyama-oyakata: "He's not big, he'll fail if he relies on throws. I want him to polish his oshi-zumo and become a rikishi able to cope with many different situations."

A bit unusual news during the basho - but an impressive sight:
Musashigawa-oyakata scouted a big fish with his tours around the country.
Ryutaro Tokuda (15, 190cm, 120kg) from Tokunoshima, Amami-islands, for Musashigawa-beya.
In 1st year primary school he was invited to the island's sumo club and was also in a soccer club.
Runner-up in the 5th year group in one of the sumo national primary school championships and again runner up in the 2015 national middle schools championships.

Sumo stronghold high schools and ozumo people had tried to get him, the oyakata when he visited the island last October. Till last month he had planned to go to high school first and then enter ozumo, but now he resolved to enter Musashigawa-beya: "All young rikishi there, I want to aim with them for higher up." and "I'll come back as a yokozuna" - what else.

Incidentally, I was just watching footage from a 2000 basho in which Kaio was struggling with injured thumbs, and the commentator talked about how important they are for pushing off.

Didn't say anything about toes though!

Tsunetsugu - 2nd line, middle - (22, 179cm, 150kg, Okamoto pref.) will enter Oguruma-beya, as the first private deshi of his Nittaidai sempai Yoshikaze, the future Nakamura-oyakata.
He graduated from Nittaidai in March, a press conference will be held on the 26th.
