I don't speak Japanese, but is this one of those instances where the name of that fish is a homophone for a phrase ("In your FACE, Mongolia!" for example)? Akinomaki 37,402 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) The fish is the mede-tai - the fish is a tai (red sea bream), the most highly valued fish in Japan (kusatte mo tai - even if rotten, it's still a tai: even Goeido is at least an ozeki - and especially will later be forever a former one). Medetai is the word for something happy and joyful, especially a wedding - and a yusho. So it's a play with words.
