Hello guys,

my name is Egri Bálint, age 27, from Budapest, Hungary. As a kid I always watched sumo on Eurosport with my father (he had a very odd attraction to this sport, I was just enjoying fat guys beating each other :)) I remember Musashimaru, Takanohana and Akebono, and I witnessed the upcoming of a young and skinny guy called Asashoryu from low maegashira to yokozuna. Then my life took an other direction, TV doesn't play a role in my life any more. I almost forget about this magnificent sport.

But last July, somehow sumo came to my mind, and I started to get myself back on track. Turned out that Eurosport stopped broadcasting the bashos, but I found Kintamayama's channel on Youtube, and this is when I said: Oh, thank you Kintamayama! :))

From that point, I started to watch earlier bashos, and of course subscribed the channel, so I wouldn't miss any bout.

I was able to share my enthusiasm with my girlfriend, who is now almost as big a fan as me. :)

At the end of each Kintamayama-video, I felt rather unsatisfied, hungry for more, so I started to search the internet. That's when I found sumoforum.net. I started to read you guys, and I liked it a lot. I'm pretty impressed with your knowledge, and your japanase language skills. When you write about a rumor or some inside information, and there is a link to a japanese site, I feel so jealous. Google translate is a gift almost every time, but not with sumo-themed articles.... :D And when I feel jealous of a community, I try to join ;)

I'm looking forward to learn from you guys, and also to share my point of view with you. I don't feel quite relaxed yet (first time to join a web forum), but I hope I will feel at home in no time!

Ps

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the sole hungarian rikishi called Masutoo (wSd19). I was looking for video footage of my fellow countryman, but he is usually not covered. Do you have any advise about how can I watch his bouts?

Ps2

sorry for my english, hope we will understand each other! :)

Welcome to the Forum!

Not sure if you already discovered the mighty, no, allmighty Sumo Database?

There you can look up all the data and results for Masutoo and all the other rikishi who have ever stepped onto the dohyo.

Welcome to Sumo Data Universe! I am sure you will enjoy that!

Yes, yes, I'm browsing it even as we speak :) Actually, I love these columns and rows, and enjoy looking for strange patterns, or interesting careers.

Oh I'm pretty familiar with Masutoo's latest results (although I don't know anything about the 0-1-6 at Kyushu 2015 - injury most likely), and I wish him good luck and hope that he will be able to return makushita in March, cause 2015 was great for him!

The problem is that I cannot watch his bouts. There is no video icon next to his matches. :( So it's like a platonic love.... :D

To see videos of his matches, click on his record for each basho (3-4) (6-1) (4-3) etc. If there are videos available for that basho, they can be viewed by clcking the "blue boxes" in the resulting display. For example, July 2014.

Hi (Happy goodbyes...)

If you copy and paste the following onto google search or youtube, you will get what you are looking for and probably more (or less). Have fun!

舛東欧 旭 - Masutoo Akira

千賀ノ浦 - It is the heya that he belongs to, Chiganoura. You'll see footage of him and his stablemates practicing etc.

"Guess Kisenosato's Aite", of course. The most popular game by far. B-)

here is a game, simple, and where one will learn a lot, quickly

one just chooses ten rikishi to win, day by day, for each day of the basho

http://www.japanguide.info/sumo/

you can enroll there, a few days before the next basho

have fun and good luck!

Hello and Welcome both in Forum and into Games. :)

For "Guessing" games, GKA is the best one I know. If you want to check "how it would to be an oyakata", then my game (Rikishi game) may help. :)

Hello egribalint!

This could nearly have been my introduction. When I was a child I also watched sumo on Eurosport because my father watched it and I was so impressed by the big guys like Akebono or Musashimaru although I didn't know much about sumo. But the longer you watch it, the more you learn about it. Then it was very sad that Eurosport stopped the coverage and years later (I nearly forgot about sumo) I finally found Kintamayamas channel and the forum.

And of course you have to try the sumo games. Most of them are easy to play and very much fun but the already mentioned "Guess Kisenosato's Aite" is actually famous for being the most frustrating game. :-P (If you have further questions about the games, don't hesitate to ask, the community is full of very nice and competent people)

I didn't know that Masutoo is from Hungary. This is funny. Maybe I can get some of his bouts...

I recommend Rotosumo (pre-basho) and ISP (daily) as an introduction to sumo gaming.

Don't get fooled by those GKA maniacs. The most important Sumo Games are summarized on the Super Banzuke and these games contribute to the virtual Sumo Games World Championship. Easy access to all 19 SB games (most likely it will be 20 soon) is here:

Enjoy. Egészégedre!

By the way does anyone know why Eurosport stopped broadcasting sumo?

AFAIK, NHK or NSK (don't know which one) asked too much money for renewing the contract. I think Eurosport liked to have sumo in their coverage, but not at any price.

Feed for conspirators: The CEO of Eurosport is a buddy of Sarkozy's, and Chirac was a big fan of sumo. Ever wondered why Eurosport stopped the broadcast soon after Sarkozy became president?

Note: EUSP headquarters are in France

Thanks for all the info guys!

The NSK looks kind of greedy, don't they? Just think about how expensive the stream is...

Another question:

When I joined the forum, I registered with my real name, but then I managed to choose a catchy shikona for myself :) Is there a chance to change my name on the forum? I can see "Display name history" on the profile menu, but then I can't find the place to change my name.

I even thought that I can't change it until a certain amount of time on the forum, or a certain number of posts...

What's the deal with this?

Thanks in advance!
