ALAKTORN 346 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) And the winner, his celebrations and an interview. No subs but it's a nice watch even if you don't know Japanese language. (Credits to the owner of this channel too) Tried translating, I didn’t mark question/answer, but I hope it’s obvious by itself: Now, for the yūshō interview. Your first yūshō, congratulations Kotoshōgiku-zeki. Thank you very much. Finally a maku no uchi yūshō. How do you feel? I can’t put it into words. I’m really happy. During my difficult times, without being able to put up results, a lot of people have supported me. Right now, I’m very happy of standing here. 31 years old. You just mentioned it, but you’ve been in a period of injuries. You did well to arrive to the yūshō. For about half a year, I’ve been doing special training. It’s the result of a lot of people’s support, my shishō’s teachings, and doing my best. I’m happy. (not sure I understood this exchange correctly) Today, you had a bout vs. Gōeidō. If you won, you would’ve taken the championship. With what feelings did you go into the bout? I just thought of doing my own thing at the utmost, without worrying too much. *not sure what he’s saying here, but I think he’s thanking the young guys for helping him train each day* *don’t understand this question/answer* again something about doing his routine (training) every day I think. This basho you beat all 3 yokozuna, and for the first time stood at the top by yourself. *some question about how it felt* I did what I had to do. Rather than thinking about winning or losing, I just thought of doing my own thing. I got the results, and I’m very happy. On day 13, you were beaten by Toyonoshima-zeki, your rival since you were boys. You did well to rebound back. *don’t understand the answer* After your win today, Toyonoshima-zeki said something to you. What did you say to each other? He told me “good for you”. I’m super happy. (The “good for you” is meant in a positive way, not negative. Wasn’t sure how to translate it.) Everyone in the kokugikan and also in Yanagawa, Fukuoka was really excited. But especially, your parents came to the kokugikan, and the moment you won they were in tears. You were able to make them happy. That’s true. My parents were there in my most difficult moments, supporting me. I have nothing but gratitude for them. This basho marked the 10-year anniversary since a Japanese-born rikishi, Tochiazuma-zeki’s win. How do you feel about that? Well, my first yūshō came on the anniversary just by chance. Uhm, I’m very happy I was able to yūshō today. Next basho is gonna be important. That’s true. I’ve built the confidence that I can do it if I try my best. I’ll do my best. Congratulations. Thank you very much. It was Kotoshōgiku-zeki, with his first yūshō. Welp, I tried. Sorry for being terrible. Edited January 24, 2016 by ALAKTORN
torquato 1,075 Posted January 24, 2016 Finally a maku no uchi yūshō. Did he really say makunouchi? I'm just wondering, because I know makunouchi to be something to eat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makunouchi I ran out of likes today. So, thank's for the translation. Kintamayama 44,639 Posted January 24, 2016 Final Day Hatsu 2016- it's been a hectic few days - doing this during my holiday was bad enough without dealing with all the small and bitter people who don't really like sumo. We'll get over it-they won't.
Shikona 139 Posted January 24, 2016 Thank you for your efforts above and beyond this basho. Sorry to hear that you received complaints; hope those folks can find something better to do with their time. Enjoy the rest of your vacation, and safe journey home.
Atenzan 1,074 Posted January 24, 2016 Thank you, Kintamayama, for your excellent coverage of yet another basho. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and don't let the bitter people kubinage your enjoyment.
Atenzan 1,074 Posted January 24, 2016 Finally a maku no uchi yūshō. Did he really say makunouchi? I'm just wondering, because I know makunouchi to be something to eat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makunouchi I ran out of likes today. So, thank's for the translation. Maku=curtain, uchi=within. The phrase "within the curtain" can be said either "maku-uchi" or "maku no uchi", just as the phrase "under the curtain" can be said "maku-shita" or "maku no shita". I haven't ever heard anything about a maku no shita division though.

Akinomaki 40,030 Posted January 24, 2016 I don't mind repeated exchange of void complaints on an open forum. Some complain that there is a conspiracy, others complain that there is a conspiracy theorist. Both think that they are only telling the obvious - well, if so there is no need to tell it again and bother others with it.The first have at least their complaints adapted to the present new situation of sumo each time, so they might contain a tiny bit of real information. What makes them especially annoying is rather that they provoke those reactions.Hard to say which are more of a nuisance - the latter are less annoying, but they contain even less new information, only exactly the same complaints again and again.Just like the real problems with henka: not the use of it but the boring complaints about henka that result.Still, I have no problems with all these on the forum, one can skip all that in no time. The only thing I really hate is the use of spoiler tags

inhashi 2,363 Posted January 24, 2016 Kotoshogiku says that his biggest support was his wife. And a kind and pretty young lady indeed. The press requested a kiss, and the victor was awarded as such. Kuroyama 715 Posted January 24, 2016 Did he really say makunouchi? I'm just wondering, because I know makunouchi to be something to eat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MakunouchiIt's also the family name of the main character from Hajime no Ippo. Makunouchi is the unabbreviated version, and if you listen carefully to the announcements in the arena it's how they always say it. is it just me not knowing Japanese or was what the gyoji yelled nothing near "homarenishiki"Audio compression, plus the fact that gyoji speak a dialect of Japanese similar to the dialect of English spoken by baseball umpires, such that "SHYAOOOOOOO!!" translates to "Strike!"
