kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 10, 2016 Something special in the west side chikara-mizu, only Toyonoshima won on the East side in the first half of Makuuchi division bouts.

kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 10, 2016 Does the emperor usually wear a suit? All his kesho-mawashi must've been in the laundry... ;-) And yes, he usually wears a suit.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 10, 2016 The usual suspect for a sleepy start: Kaisei (Söze?) getting a rough wake-up call from Kotoyuki.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 10, 2016 Brute force kimedashi win after an early struggle and scare from Teru against Shohozan. If only his knees were healthy...
hamcornheinz 839 Posted January 10, 2016 wow what was that. Terunofuji walking foward like nothing was in front of him.
hamcornheinz 839 Posted January 10, 2016 Aminishiki cleared the platform as Kisenosato fell. I'm calling a redo.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 10, 2016 Aminishiki cleared the platform as Kisenosato fell. I'm calling a redo. Should be a win for the wily veteran for me.

They give Kise another chance, oh well.... saved by the shimpan. Edited January 10, 2016 by kuroimori

They give Kise another chance, oh well.... saved by the shimpan. But when you get such a friendly break from the Men in Black you should prepare for an angry Aminishiki. Kise doesn't waste time to disappoint in the new year... He seemed even more asleep in the tori-naoshi than in the first clash.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 10, 2016 Not sure I got the NHK interview with Aminishiki through the Mongolian comment at UBS, but I thoughtI heard Aminishiki saying "Well, I thought I was still in (when Kise touched the clay)..."
hamcornheinz 839 Posted January 10, 2016 Watching Kakaryu is gonna take 5 years off my lifespan... They only showed it twice, but I thought it was pretty obvious he cleared the platform a little before Kise hit the ground.

Exactly what he said. But boy was Kise asleep for that redo.
Gernobono 455 Posted January 10, 2016 anyone got, what the shimpan said, why they ordered a torinaoshi?
rhyen 1,809 Posted January 10, 2016 anyone got, what the shimpan said, why they ordered a torinaoshi? Probably "dead body" rule, Aminishiki was flying out of the dohyo when Kisenosato hit the dirt.
hamcornheinz 839 Posted January 10, 2016 Nah he wasn't dead body. You are considered out once your foot clear the edge of the dohyo.
rhyen 1,809 Posted January 10, 2016 well here's to 10 years without a Japanese champion. There is still Kotoshogiku, Goiedo, Tochiozan, Aminishiki (chasing Oshima's challenge), Kotoyuki, Okinoumi, Toyonoshima, Takayasu, Mitakeumi, Shodai, Toyohibiki, Kitataiki. Besides, Kisenosato can win all his remaining 14 matches.
Irakusamaru 77 Posted January 10, 2016 Still, what else did Kise think was going to happen on the torinaoshi? The impatient look on Aminishiki's face cried "HENKA" from miles away. Also, calling shenanigans on Izutsu Oyakata's mono-ii with Hakuho and Ikioi. Shikimori Inosuke must've nearly had a heart attack when his hand went up. Double bonus for annoying Hakuho.

Asashosakari 18,786 Posted January 10, 2016 Nah he wasn't dead body. You are considered out once your foot clear the edge of the dohyo.Ah, so we're getting the annual appearance of that urban legend out of the way early this year...
Dwale 419 Posted January 10, 2016 Shohozan/Terunofuji really had me going. That would have been my favorite match today if it weren't for... Aminishiki/Kisenosato Pfffffft. Kisenosato, man, I love you, but you totally deserved that. That recovery from Kotoyuki was nice, I was surprised he managed to pull a victory out of that situation. Don't know anything about Shoudai, but I like to cheer for newcomers, what with makuuchi being as unforgiving as it is. No problems for him today. Everyone I'm cheering either got a win or at least put up a good fight. Kanpai!
Atenzan 1,074 Posted January 10, 2016 Terunofuji looking bandaged as, no chance of a tsunatori if this much effort is needed. Very impressive nonetheless, as was Shodai- cool as a cucumber. Harumafuji and Kotoshogiku the only Y/O that looked 100%.
