Goeido did not manage to get a single double digits kacki-koshi during the whole of 2015. 10-5 is usually given as the minimum expectation for an Ozeki. Will he do better in 2016?

Please comment below with your predictions - and state your guess for his actual rank on the January 2017 banzuke.

I hope he either pulls himself together and manages to perform like a half decent Ozeki, or vacate the rank. I lean towards predicting the latter, so S1e, 1 double digit win basho. and 2 KK.

Goeido did not have double-digit wins in 2006. Granted, he was only a sekitori for Kyushu, but a future Ozeki would have had at least 10 on his Juryo debut, right?

S1e

1x 10+ wins

Err... How can an Ozeki drop to Sekiwake whith only one makekoshi basho? (Thinking in depth...)

O2E (but there will only be three Ozekis - so the lowest ranking one).

1 basho with 10 or more wins (probably March).

5 KK

Why only one makekoshi? I predicted 4 kachikoshi , that means 2 (consecutive) makekoshi...

Oops. My mistake. Apparently I was adding the one 10+ on top of the four 8+ not realizing that an 8+ could of course itself be a 10+.

No idea, what drove me that way. Silly me... (Blushing...)

Goeido will be ranked S1E for the Hatsu 2017 basho. His playing with fire will get to him, and he will drop from the ozeki rank. His 10-5 record will come while ranked as a sekiwake, but it won't be the basho that he drops from Ozeki, rather it will happen after he missed his chance for a return. He will only have 3KK next year.

S1E

1 x 10 kachi

3 x kachikoshi

Then back to Ozeki end of 2016 early 2017

Yokozuna 1 East (15-0 x 6)

;-) Just kidding.

It's really difficult to predict because it's not entirely up to him. Maybe we see some surprise initais among the high ranking wrestlers. That would work in his favor. Who konows? Maybe he just levels up. Or maybe he doesn't.

I mostly nailed it last year, and my prediction isn't much different for this year. He'll keep the rank, but he won't do much to show that he deserves it.

Ozeki, 4KK, zero 10-win basho.

None of us think that Goeido will make the step up to Yokozuna..... Worse still, just over half of us think that he will lose his Ozeki status this year!

No one thinks that he will have 3 or more bashos with 10 wins.... So I guess we expect him to be a disappointing Ozeki (?again?) this year.

Oh - and nobody thinks that he will make KK for every basho - so expect at least one kadoban basho.

Goeido's results for the year...

Jan: O2W 4-11
Mar: O2E 12-3
May: O1W 9-6
Jul: O2E 7-8
Sep: O2E 15-0Y
Nov: O1E 9-6

So a very mixed bag of results!

He will be ranked at O1W in January 2017 (nobody predicted this exact rank in the comments. Jejima was closest with O2E.)

The players (not quite half) who predicted that he would keep his Ozeki rank are:-  I am the Yokozuna, d_golem, Kintamayama, Terao, Jejima, Ayagawa, Kotononami, Fujisan, Finngall and kuroimori.

Goeido twice managed to get at least ten wins (and then some!) - Kintamayama, sesom, Fujisan, kuroimori and McBugger all got this correct.

Goeido got four KKs during the year, as predicted by d_golem, Kintamayama, Tenshinhan, sesom, Fingall, kuroimori and McBugger.

There isn't enough in their comments above, so as they both got 3-out-of-3 correct, Kintamayama and kuroimori can share the yusho for this one. (Cheers...)
