It's the 12th edition of the Hakuho annual poll!

Please add a comment with your prediction below - and also say how many zensho yushos you think he'll win.

Depends on the amount of clowning around he will do to keep himself motivated, I guess. I'd say not more than one.

I may be the lone voice in Sumo Land but I still think he is going to retire very soon. I was very surprised that he didn't announce it at the end of the Kyushu basho. So, I think there are 5 possiblilties, the 5th one of which I don't agree with ---------------

1) He will announce his retirement by the end of this year.

2) He will announce his retirement after the Hatsu basho if he injures or re-injures himself during keiko prior to the start of the Hatsu basho.

3) He will announce his retirement after the Hatsu basho iif or when he goes kyujo during the Hatsu basho.

4) He will announce his retirement at the end of the Hatsu basho for any other reason.

5) He will keep going for an undetermined number of bashos in 2016.

(I'm sorry that I'm not really answering the poll, but I just can't get beyond thoughts #'s 1 through 4).

I suppose he could always retire and join a circus, where his antics might be more appreiciated! Oh, I know!! He could be the first Yokozuna that does that sumo comedy routine (Is it called Shokkuri or something like that?). He would be great!! He wouldn't have to memorize the routine. He seems to be pretty good at improvising. Yeah!!

He's definitely on the decline, but he can still win when he puts his mind on it, so I'll say three yusho, one kyujo, no zensho and a 13 win streak.

I don't think he's going to retire until he gets that Japanese citizenship. I honestly believe that he wants to stay in the NSK and become an ichidai-toshiyori, and will keep going until whatever is holding him back from getting Japanese citizenship no longer applies.

As for my predictions:

2 yusho. There are going to be a number of rising stars coming up in the next year, and age is catching up to Hakuho. If he can heal some more during this time off, then he'll be able to add to the record. Somehow, someway I think we will see an ozeki yusho.

I still think he'll be able to average at least 11-12 wins a year for the full year, so I picked 71 wins total.

I don't think he'll have any zensho, but more than likely he'll win a yusho having lost a match somewhere in the middle of the basho and go straight into the next basho winning 24 consecutive matches.

3 yushos (Jan, Mar, Jul) - including the zensho yusho in January.

76 wins

Longest streak will 27 from the shonichi in January, eventually losing on day 13 in March to Terunofuji.

Over two-thirds of us think that Hakuho will win at least half of the bashos in 2016!

Most of us think he'll get between 70 and 80 wins in 2016.

A big spread for his longest streak, from 8 (Kotononami) and 45 (Fujisan)... wow.

Locked.

Hakuho's results for 2016:-

Jan - 12-3JY (Y1W)
Mar - 14-1Y (Y1W)
May - 15-0Y (Y1E)
Jul - 10-5 (Y1E)
Sep - 0-0-15 (Y1W)
Nov - 11-4 (Y2E)

So, that is two yushos, as predicted by I am the Yokozuna, Taigiin khuu, WAKATAKE and Oshirokita.

One of the yushos was 'zensho' (15-0), as predicted (in the comments) by Gurowake, inhashi, orandashoho, Ganzohnesushi, Tenshinhan, Jejima, chishafuwaku and Finngall.

Hakuho ended up with 62 wins for the year.  Nobody guessed this correctly. kuroimori was closest with 66 wins, second was Kintamayama with 56 ins, and third was usagi with 69 wins.

Hakuho's longest winning streak was from day 2 of the March basho until day 4 of the July basho, a total string of 33 wins.  Amazingly, two players got this exactly correct!  They are SumpaX and rhyen!

Looking at the comments.....

Ganzohnesushi did really well in his comment!  - But he does not seem to have actually voted in the poll....  I think this should disqualify him from the yusho....

Luckily, I think there is a player who did a better (regarding the comments), including getting the month of the zensho yusho correct, so after a mono-ii, chishafuwaku can claim the yusho for this poll! (Yushowinner...)

Hmmmmm....

So, both are discounted. I guess this happened due to the 'forum update' when the rules for poll threads were changed.
