WAKATAKE

Wakanosato Retires (This time it's official)

Recommended Posts

At his intai-zumo before the cutting he will have the last bout as Wakanosato against (ex-)Takamisakari, same region town, same year at school, competing against each other since primary school. In makuuchi it's 21-4 for Wakanosato.

Miyabiyama had this with his 4 year old eldest son, some have it against an active rikishi. Two oyakata against each other is rare.

If I remember correctly, Wakanosato and Takamisakari don't come from the same town. Takamisakari raised at Itayanagi, and Wakanosato, at Hirosaki. These town are very close, but not the same.

The Last? Who was the First? The Last what? Engrish at its best.

Yeah, had the same thought. Well, just another example of the engrish.

Would be a nice name for a king - or even better, the pope... ;-)

Hmm, maybe the last "Wakanosato", kind of like retiring the number of MJ23 and such. Is that at all possible?

It's silly though. The shirt should feature a crocodile at least. And barometer was not a bad nickname at all, too, so there goes another nice iconic motif...

Those bento look delicious. But my real question is: did Takamisakari know who his opponent was going to be or did he stick to his personal tradition?

It looks like the surplus suit closet used to outfit new retirees is getting low on choices.

A longer video with some bouts: makuuchi is after the cutting

Kotoyuki was there - but kyujo the next day for Kyokutenho's intai-zumo bouts - like Goeido only in the dohyo-iri.

Injured in a hana-zumo bout ?

One special event took place at the danpatsu-shiki:
among the cutters was the headmaster (85) of Wakanosato's old Hirosaki middle school: he brought with him the graduation certificate. Wakanosato entered ozumo in February, went to Osaka for the Haru basho and at the time was absent from the graduation ceremony. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/column/sumo/news/1660659.html
