Mukonoso 273 Posted July 25, 2015 Do the Japanese fans think they are somehow helping Goeido by chanting his name before he faces Hakuho? LOL! It only seemed to fire Hakuho up. All it got for Goeido was a sharp slap across the face before being quickly ushered off the doyho. That was the first time that I've ever seen a crowd chanting in unison for a particular wrestler. All it got for Goeido was a sharp slap across the face before being quickly ushered off the doyho. That was the first time that I've ever seen a crowd chanting in unison for a particular wrestler. Well, Goeido comes from Osaka. It happend a couple of times the crowd during an Oska-basho was cheering for him like that [in hope the local hero might become Ozeki or Yokuzuna or beat at least the great guys]. I was rather suprised that this happened in Nagoya... The chearing for Goeido was really worth mentioning, though this time....
torquato 1,075 Posted July 25, 2015 Giku will get Ichinojo tomorrow and Teru last day? Me thinks he's safe. Come on. You're actually mainly interested in Kaisei, ain't...? :-D
CT3* 331 Posted July 25, 2015 There has been synchronized clapping before for particular rikishi. Most recently for Kisenosato when he has been in the yusho race. Methinks it stems from the public's yearning for a Japanese yusho winner/hero who also recognize that there are now 4 dominant Mongolians atop the banzuke. Five if Ichinojo gets it together.
shimodahito 336 Posted July 25, 2015 this aomori fan is not having a good makuuchi-juryo basho :-(
Fukurou 534 Posted July 25, 2015 And Jk21E Homarenishiki has finished his first basho at 4-3, defeating Jk16E Uminishiki for the KK (Uminishiki finishes 3-4)
Asashosakari 20,270 Posted July 25, 2015 No mercy in juryo today - 5 rikishi in danger of demotion, 5 losses.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 25, 2015 Kyokutenho lost again today, at 3-11 and tomorrow's aite being Tochinoshin, a Juryo demotion seems almost certain. The NHK commentator mentioned what appeared to be a quote from Kyokutenho that he won't do sumo in Juryo.
WAKATAKE 2,759 Posted July 25, 2015 Wakanosato lost today, and is 4-10. Both him and Kyokutenho mentioned that they will discuss with their shishos and family about whether they will be wrestling tomorrow. Looks like this is where we will probably be losing two veteran wrestlers. Also it appears that Aminishiki wasn't thrilled about winning over Kyokutenho.

Asashosakari 20,270 Posted July 25, 2015 And a rare double torinaoshi in makushita today. The guy I was rooting for eventually lost, which isn't a spoiler, since you don't know which one I'm talking about. ;-)
WAKATAKE 2,759 Posted July 25, 2015 And the foreigners' streak continues.
Asojima 2,874 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) Humpty's back on the wall! (Clapping wildly...)But Humpty is facing Terunofuji who can later start a weak tsuna run with a jun-yusho if Hakuho takes a win from Kakuryu. Probably no OBSC gimme here. Naganoyama 6,040 Posted July 25, 2015 I thought I could guess who you were rooting for but I was wrong. (Still not a spoiler)
ALAKTORN 346 Posted July 25, 2015 Kyokutenhō, no! ;_; At least Kakuryū is giving us an exciting basho.
Jakusotsu 6,395 Posted July 25, 2015 How could anybody *not* be rooting for a guy called Takayoshitoshi?? (still not a spoiler since I haven't watched the bout yet B-))
Kishinoyama 625 Posted July 25, 2015 I noticed that Kyokutenho is facing Tochinoshin tomorrow. Is it normal to have someone with that many losses go up against someone who is 7-7? Is it being done so that Kyokutenho's match is closer to the end of the day? If he is planning on retiring I think he would go all out to win his last appearance. Gurowake 4,152 Posted July 25, 2015 They obviously are giving Tochinoshin his KK to get him into Sanyaku to make up for this basho's banzuke snub. It makes no sense that they've put him against MK guys Days 14 and 15, one MK guy headed to Juryo who probably is retiring, unless they really care more about getting Tochinoshin his KK than having interesting matches. They have plenty of candidates with good records they could test, but instead they want Tochinoshin to just coast.
WAKATAKE 2,759 Posted July 25, 2015 The ultimate irony would be if Kyokutenho were to actually beat Tochinoshin. However they may be wanting to feature Kyokutenho later as a tribute to him for all we know. If he is going to retire, have him wrestle when the crowd can get really loud and cheer him on. That would make sense to me.
CT3* 331 Posted July 25, 2015 Hakuho is NOT playing around! Beast mode.
inhashi 2,363 Posted July 25, 2015 So Kyokutenho is having a talk with Tomozuna oya and his family. Will he eventually re-open Oshima beya? If so, will he/can he take back the original Oshima boys or will it be a matter of his own flock to find? Does he yet have his own kabu?
Yubinhaad 11,972 Posted July 25, 2015 I hope Hanai doesn't get the wrong idea and expect to fight eight bouts in every basho of his career. He's the ninth rikishi to do this twice, and the third to do so in consecutive basho, following Ebihara in 1982.09/11 and Hayakawa in 1993.07/09.
