2015 Nagoya Basho- THE UNDERDOG GAME (TUG) - INVITATION

Recommended Posts

Hello Sumo Fans and Gamers,

Yet another basho is about to start in a week, so I'd like to INVITE YOU to play The Underdog Game (TUG) during 2015 Nagoya Basho.

I still have dificulties finding somebody to help me with the automation of the game, so I'll manage the game again manually.

It's up to you to decide how to submit your daily entries. Choose one of the following options:

1.) Post them daily on Sumoforum;

2.) Use the PM (private message) on the Sumoforum. If you chose to use this method, please, use Randomitsuki's method.

Once you Compose your message, every day open the same PM and reply to it with your new pick. In this way the

Storage space is much smaller than if you submit every day different PMs.

3.) You can send your pick with an e-mail to angelstoyanov55(at)yahoo(dot)com

Important: After Day 14 a Cut line (like in Golf) will be anounced. All Gamers who have a mathematical chance to

win the Yusho or the Jun Yusho, will make the Cut. For all these Gamers it will be MANDATORY to send their last pick on

Senshuraku either by PM or e-mail.

If somebody, who makes the Cut, has a problem with sending a PM or e-mail, he/she will be allowed his/her

pick to be sent by a friend, who doesn't have a problem with these methods, otherwise their picks, if

posted on the Sumoforum WON'T COUNT, even if they are wins.

Here are the Rules of the Game.

I pretty much kept everything the same as the last basho. The only NEW thing (see in Green Bold Italic below) is the BACK-UP pick in case your original pick is involved in a Fusen bout.

The Underdog Game
Rules

Deadline

The deadline is 15:00 JST every day.

The gamers can change their picks as many times as they want by the deadline.

Daily Entry

This is a simple game to play:

Just chose one Underdog from Makuuchi division every day, who you think will bring you most points.

NEW! Everybody can make a second choice as a BACK-UP in case the picked rikishi is involved in a FUSEN-SHO bout. Please, put the back-up pick in brackets.

Attention: The back-up pick plays ONLY if there is Fusen.

The Torikumi with the corresponding points for grab will be announced as soon as the official daily Torikumi is available. It will be posted on Sumoforum and will be sent to the sumo mailing list, as well, if there are participants who don’t visit the SUMOFORUM.

Daily Points for Grab:

  1. Basic points (BaP):

5 points will be awarded for every win by an Underdog.

  1. Rank points (RP):
  1. Maegashira - Each rank counts for 1 (one) point:

M16W wins over M16E 1 point

M16W wins over M15W 2 points

M16W wins over M15E 3 points

M16E wins over M15W 1 point

M16E wins over M15E 2 points etc. until M1E

  1. Juryo Spank Toy – Same as (1)
  2. Equality of Sanyaku ranks:

M1E wins over either Komusubi 2 points

M1E wins over either Sekiwake 4 points

M1E wins over either Ozeki 7 points

M1E wins over either Yokozuna 10 points

Either K wins over either Sekiwake 2 points

Either K wins over either Ozeki 5 points

Either K wins over either Yokozuna 8 points

Either Sekiwake wins over either Ozeki 3 points

Either Sekiwake wins over either Yokozuna 6 points

Either Ozeki wins over either Yokozuna 3 points

  1. Bonus Points (BoP):
  1. Kinboshi (Maegashira defeats Yokozuna) 10 points.
  2. Ginboshi (Maegashira defeats Ozeki) 7 points.
  3. Douboshi (Maegashira defeats Junior Sanyaku – K or S) 4 points.
  4. JS-Y bonus (Junior Sanyaku - K or S defeats Yokozuna) 6 points.
  5. JS-O bonus (Junior Sanyaku - K or S defeats Ozeki) 4 points.
  6. O-Y bonus (Ozeki defeats Yokozuna) 3 points.
  7. M13-M16 defeats M1-M4 7 points.
  8. M13-M16 defeats M5-M8 5 points.
  9. M13-M16 defeats M9-M12 3 points.
  10. M9-M12 defeats M1-M4 5 points.
  11. M9-M12 defeats M5-M8 3 points.
  12. M5-M8 defeats M1-M4 3 points.
  13. Juryo Spank Toy defeats Maegashira 3 points.

  1. GOLDEN Bonus points (GBoP):

Extra 5 points are awarded to any Gamer who is the only one to pick any winning Underdog rikishi.

Tie-breakers for ranking the gamers with the same score:

If several players have equal number of points at the end of the Basho, the following tie-breakers are in force to differentiate them:

  1. The largest sum of the 3 best daily scores;
  2. The largest sum of the 4 best daily scores;
  3. The largest sum of the 5 best daily scores;
  4. The largest sum of the 6 best daily scores, etc. until breaking the tie.

Fusen

Fusen wins do NOT bring any points.

See, the new rule for a back-up pick above in GREEN.

Sansho

To be in contention for a special prize, a kachi-koshi (eight wins or more) is required.

Kanto-sho

The Fighting Spirit award goes to the player with the largest sum of the 3 best daily BONUS points, including the Golden bonus points, if any.

Gino-sho

The Technique Prize goes to the player with the largest sum of the 3 best daily TOTAL points, including the Golden bonus points, if any.

Shukun-sho

The Outstanding Performance Award goes to the player with most BONUS points, including the Golden points, if any, achieved during the WHOLE basho (in case of a tie – the player(s) with least 0 points days win(s)).

Achiyama-sho

The Maverick Award for most unorthodox picks goes to the player with most GOLDEN BONUS points during the whole basho.

Promotion to Ozeki

  • Sekiwake rank on the recent two tournaments
  • Kachi-Koshi result on the recent four tournaments
  • At least one yusho or jun-yusho (by kekka, not points) on the recent four tournaments
  • At least 32 kekka points on the recent three basho

Conditions of promotion are examined only by results of active tournaments, so the player will not lose his chances for the promotion if he/she has to leave out a basho because of any reason, but only if he/she previously sent a note about his/her absence.

If an ozeki gets a Make-Koshi result on a tournament, he/she will receive kadoban status for the following basho. If he/she finishes this basho with Make-Koshi, too, then he/she will lose his/her rank. Nevertheless, if he/she can get at least 10 wins on the third tournament, he/she will get his Ozeki rank back

Promotion to Yokozuna

  • Ozeki rank on the recent two tournaments
  • kachi-koshi result on the recent four tournaments
  • at least two yusho or jun-yusho (by kekka, not points) on the recent four tournaments
  • at least 35 kekka points on the recent three basho

Conditions of promotion are examined only by results of active tournaments, so the player will not lose his/her chances for the promotion if he/she has to leave out a basho because of any reason, but only if he/she previously sent a note about his/her absence.

Although it is not too graceful if a Yokozuna has continuously weak performances, there is no pressure on them at all, it entirely depends on their own decision if they continue playing or retire, and everybody has to respect this decision.

Absences

  • First absence – KOSHO is automatically granted, keeping the rank the same for the following Banzuke;
  • Second consecutive absence – Score of 0-15 is assigned;
  • Third consecutive absence results in Banzuke-gai (falling of Banzuke).

Although official Registration for the Game is NOT required, please, let me know if you are willng to participated in the new edition of TUG (The Underdog Game) during the upcoming 2015 Nagoya Basho!

I hope to see all gamers, who were KOSHO last basho , back and energized.

I have 2 (two) gamers who already requested KOSHO for 2015 Nagoya Basho:

Reijinguoshan - Graduation Exams

Jejima - Traveling to England

I'd be very happy if new PARTICIPANTS show up, explore and enjoy the game this basho.

Best Regards,

Achiyama

I know that it's not very likely to happen, but what if both picks have fusensho results? Zero points?

Also, if the first pick is fusenpai, does that bring the second pick into play?

I hope it doesn't happen. It would be a double bad luck - resulting in 0 points

I'd be o.k. to allow the back-up pick to play in any Fusen - fusensho (win by Fusen) or fusenpai (loss by Fusen).
