Hello from Scotland

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I've been lurking here for about a year after rediscovering Sumo! I was a big fan of Terao twenty-five years ago, when sumo was broadcast here in the UK, and it's taken me this long to find the online community.

I've no idea if my shikona makes sense - it was generated phonetically from a meaning of my real name. I think! I want to join some of the games too. See you around :)

Welcome to the forum (Welcome...)

As for your shikona, don't sweat it, I have always found that making sense is very overrated

Welcome!

To be fair, from the 25 years you had to wait to find an online community we should take the first ten off, as in that period reality was still looking for "the online" in general.

Welcome. If you want one with sense in Japanese, it could be Subayahito, swift man, could even be the name of an imperial family member.

(in Katakana, to a Japanese your shikona makes perfect sense, everybody knows Jonathan Swift)

Cheers mate and welcome along!

The phonetically closest / correct shikona would be

Subifuto - but that doesn't make that much sense either...

but there are kanji character for it anyway - which also don't too much sense either:

数日富戸

or

出美肥 <--- the last character is the same as in BaruTO and this would be a nice hybrid of DEjima, AMInishiki and BaruTO - wow I just created a monster!!

Well, I hope I don't cause anyone to cringe again - this time the kanji experts on this forum - the Japanese kanji characters have never been my strong suit, but I just can't resist to toy around with them once in a while.

but I am drifting off,

Welcome again Suwihuto!

Ey up...good to have a fellow Brit, especially in the games as there aren't many of us. Welcome. My mum lives up in Oban...are you anywhere near there?

Hearty salutations from the Swami! Yes, I too remember the Channel 4 coverage which lasted between 1987 & 1992, during that time also covering the 1991 London Koen.

Thanks for the big welcome everyone!

Panda - I'm in Edinburgh, so not likely to drop in for a cuppa at your mum's any time soon :-)

And it's good to know that "suwihuto" is intelligible, if not sensible!

You can actually go with Suwifuto. Seems much better.

Nice one. Agree with Kintamayama on the name too: Suwifuto is a lot better!

Regarding the games, for your reference here is a link for the main games we all play. There are others, of course, but these are the biggest, and each has its charm. For pure infuriating addictiveness, I'll recommend Sumo Game...but they're all excellent!
