2015 Natsu - THE UNDERDOG GAME (TUG) - TORIKUMI & STANDINGS

Day 5 - Osunaarashi

The huge point difference between this and a more likely win was too tempting.

Nice Day 4. Few guys risked it and it paid off. 3 more gamers, the risk takers, got also Golden Bonus points.

Nobody mentioned about the new amendment to the rules but my first impression is that the Golden Bonus points make the game more interesting.

Here are the points achieved on Day 4:

There are changes in the top of the Standings Table after Day 4:

Shokikogi takes the lead with 54 points.

Jejima with his "crazy" pick made a gigantic leap to #2 with 52 points.

Flohru and Itachi climb one step up to #3 and #4 with 48 and 47 points, respectively.

A group of 3 gamers, Randomitsuki, ScreechingOwl and Gurowake, follow with 42 points.

I didn't comment about golden points before because I really don't care one way or another, but one thing to keep in mind is when the picks are public like this, it gives an advantage to those who submit their picks right at the deadline. I can easily imagine a match where the underdog by the banzuke is heavily favored in reality, while the points are too low to make it worthwhile picking them for most people, but someone picking right at the deadline might be able to see that they'd get an additional 5 points for their pick, which could easily tip the scales when the points are low. It also creates some awkward tension where one might want to make a certain pick just to deny someone the 5 extra points if they were the only other person making the pick, although I would guess this is far less likely. Additionally, the rule doesn't particularly scale well. TTT has the Shukun-sho (I think) based on a similar statistic, but it scales perfectly with the number of players as it's a continuous value and not an on/off switch. The more players you get, the less and less relevant the golden points become except precisely for those players who pick at the absolutely last second.

Again, I don't really care. Those are just things to keep in mind.

There might be some things true, what you are writing, but it's part of the game to try do deny somebody of the extra 5 points - this is a strategy. Another part of the strategy is when you are going to submit your pick.

Anybody can submit his/her pick privately via PM or an e-mail if you don't want your pick to be seen (and there are few gamers doing exactly that). If you elect to post your pick publicly on Sumoforum you have to be ready that somebody might deny you the possibility to earn extra Golden points.

Day 6 - Tochinoshin

Because he deserves his second win and Goeido deserves probably his kadoban-status.
