Kintamayama 47,335 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) The veteran fans will remember Towanoyama (1.90 meters, 200 kilos, 37) for making it to Makuuchi for one basho where he never had a single bout as he was injured in morning training on day 1 of the 2002 March tournament and never made it back.. He retires at Makushita 50. "I really wanted to make it back to Makuuchi but my body never let me..I did all I could, so no regrets.." he said today. He will not be staying on in the sumo world, and his danpatsushiki will be on January 25th (tomorrow) somewhere in Tokyo. Maguroyama 27 Posted January 24, 2015 Amazing that he held out this long after dropping from makunouchi and juryo, quite an effort! How unique is it for a maegashira to never have competed in makunouchi (other than visting from juryo of course)?
