Dear Sumo Gamers,

Thank you very much for your interest in this game!

Taking into consideration the feedback from Jejima and Pandaazuma, here is the revised version of The Underdog Game (TUG):

The Underdog Game
Rules

Deadline

The deadline is 14:00 JST on Shonichi (Day 1).

This is a simple game to play: Just chose one Underdog every day from Makuuchi division, who you think will bring you most points.

  10. O-Y bonus (Ozeki defeats Yokozuna) – 3 points.
  11. M13-M16 defeats M1-M4 – 7 points.
  12. M13-M16 defeats M5-M8 – 5 points.
  13. M13-M16 defeats M9-M12 – 3 points.
  14. M9-M12 defeats M1-M4 – 5 points.
  15. M9-M12 defeats M5-M8 – 3 points.

  17. Daily winner – 4 points.
  18. Daily 2nd place – 2 points.
  19. Daily 3rd place – 1 point.

Note: If there is more than one player on 1st, 2nd or 3rd places – everybody gets

the corresponding bonus points.

Tie-breakers for Yusho Winners:

If more than one player has the best record at the end of the basho, the following tie-breakers are in force:

  1. The most daily wins;
  2. The most daily 2nd places;
  3. The largest sum of the 3 best daily scores;
  4. The largest sum of the 5 best daily scores.

Fusen

Fusen wins for the Underdog are allowed, but only the basic points count. The bonus points are not allowed.

Sansho

To be in contention for a special prize, a kachi-koshi (eight wins or more) is required.

Kanto-sho

The Fighting Spirit award goes to the player with the most daily bonus points achieved in 1 (one) day (in case of a tie – the second daily most points, etc until the tie is broken).

Gino-sho

The Technique Prize goes to the player with the most daily total points achieved (in case of a tie – the second daily most points, etc until the tie is broken).

Shukun-sho

The Outstanding Performance Award goes to the player with most bonus points achieved during the whole basho (in case of a tie – the players with less 0 points days).

I am sure more improvements of the game could be made after the inaugural basho. So, I'll be open for discussion and appreciate your suggestions.

Every day after the Torikumi is out, I’ll post on Sumoforum the Torikumi with the number of total points each of the Uderdogs could eventually win for you.

For those who are interested in the game, but don't visit the Sumoforum very often, I can e-mail all posts to you.

I'd suggest your daily picks to be sent to my e-mail: angelstoyanov55(at)yahoo(dot)com

Once again thank you.

I was thinking, Achiyama...why not just get people to post their picks on the forum. It will save you a lot of time with emails etc. and and everyone will be able to see what people picked so that will ensure errors can be quickly amended. I think we did this with TTT. And if there is a close race, maybe on senshuraku only people should email you their picks, to ensure that the leader can't just match the pick of the person in second place to ensure victory. We used to have that problem in ISP.

Just a thought.

I have been trying to reduce the number of games I play, but it seems you have created a simple and clever game mechanic that is intriguing to me. Since you have offered to post the daily torikumi with possible points by match (a lot of work for you, but makes it easier for me), then I will give this a try. Count me in!

Good point Paanda-zeki,

I don't mind the picks to be posted on the forum.

But I don't want to make it a rule. If somebody wants to submit the picks privately you are welcome to e-mail them to me. I'd recommend, if you decide to e-mail your picks, please, "cc" the e-mails to another sumo gamer for confirmation in case there are some problems with the delivery.

Personal choice.

What do you have in mind? Whom did I miss?

I miss your name, Angel-san.

If you get all picks as email, you really not can take part.

But if all players post their picks in this thread, you can be a normal player as all others.

Then too all people can see, who voted before the deadline and who not.

Of course an automatisation could be better, but this is for later.

Profo.

I don't see a problem with e-mailing the picks as:

1.) I was planning as soon as I post the Torikumi with the corresponding points for grab to e-mail my picks to Jezz and Panda (or other gamers).

2.) I was planning also to post on the Forum (and update frequently) from whom I have received e-mails until the deadline.

The reason I was thinking about e-mailing was to avoid getting many similar picks which will cause dificulty in differentiating between the gamers.

But Pandaazuma is right that it will cost me too much time.

Having in mind that this is an inaugural game, let's do the following:

All picks are to be posted on the Sumoforum.

Those who have difficulty using the Sumoforum (like Gaijingai) can e-mail their picks to me and one other sumo gamer (who'd volunteer to be the second recipient?).

If by Nakabi we observe difficulty in differentiation of the scores - we might consider e-mailing of the picks during the second half of the basho.

Are you o.k. with this solution?

My shikona is written "ShokiKoGi" not "ShokiGoKi", Achiyama. The order of the ks and the g is important, so I know this can happen anyone at any time ;-)

But anything else is fine and correct. The solution is good and I´m curious about the starting of TUG.

Thank you everybody who responded to my invitation to try the new daily "The Underdog Game".

It's a go! I had a number in my head if there are at least 20 candidates to run the game.

Till now 23 (one of my favorite numbers) sumo gamers declared that they will try the game.

Here is the list:

Jejima

Chishafuwaku

Gurowake

Pandaazuma

Kintamayama

Senkoho

Ganzohnesushi

Shokikogi

Randomitsuki

Itachi

Gawasukotto

Shimodahito

Profomisakari

Jakusotsu

Eightenberg

Fuseigou

Oshirokita

Mmikasazuma

Wamahada

Everybody is welcome. The Torikumi with the points will be posted as soon as it is out.

Best Regards,

Achiyama
