Is this a fact? My impression was they showed exactly the same amount as usual. Even a bit more of the ambience than they used to.

And the only time one was able to watch a M16 in the recent past was later in the basho when they were matched against M11 upwards.

No, no, sadly not. Did you notice the extra soccer-news-programs that last about five minutes, with commercials eight or so. Those steal time, too. But there is more commercial now.

I haven't watched the current broadcast, but my recollection matches Jakusotsu's. It's pretty common for them to not show the early bouts, in my experience. In fact, what they do show generally seems to match what Dale Carlson is able to put up as first-run bouts on his site. Everything he needs to add from the repeat broadcasts tends to be missing in the digest version (and therefore on Eurosport), too.

(I presume that's because they're able to use only the material from the live broadcast to produce each day's digest feature?)

Eurosport is exactly the same as before. They have never shown every bout up from M16. NEVER. I have more than enough videotapes to prove this. (Proverbial apple...)

My impression is the same as Jakusotsu's. I didn't notice more commercials than usual, either. Could it be possible they broadcast different editions of the show in different countries?

Jakusotsu and I are from Germany. Where are you from Phelix?

Yes, to me it was also the same as before - and I watch sometimes the English-speaking (Syd Hoare) version, and sometimes the French one, including this time. I taped everything so far, and as always I stopped taping at each commercial break, and I have to say that the first three days' footage was actually slightly longer than usual (more than 50 minutes without ads if I remember: that struck me because I got slightly worried that my 240 minutes videotape, which usually just makes the trick for all five 3-day shows, might be too short this time...). Some time ago, on the French sumo forum (info-sumo.net), we had some explanations about how the stuff is compiled (it's the French commentator Marc Mingoia who produces the program), I don't remember everything that was explained but I certainly recall that it's supposed to be the same stuff shown on every Eurosport channel...

Aah, that's why I use regular 180 minute tapes but record on LP.

same as usual to my eyes too ...... never showed lower ranked matches or any replays (except for the last match) so i think everything is normal...

Hi to everyone on this topic!

Sorry for the unproductive post, but I was just wondering what time and what kinds of sumo shows do they show on Eurosport? The reason to ask such a stupid question is the fact that I just came back from Japan a little over a month ago, just after the Natsu basho. At the time of the Natsu basho, however, Eurosport was showing the Haru Basho! So they are one basho behind. I forgot to mention that I am from Bulgaria and here I get German Eurosport. I was just wondering if this is the same program that you are watching?

Regards to everyone that cares to read or reply to my humble post

Eurosport is showing the "current" basho with a delay of varying degrees, from three to seven weeks. So this thread is dealing with the Eurosport broadcast of the Natsu basho. German Eurosport is good for you, at least better than British which rarely shows Sumo.

Thanks Doitsuyama!

Well, it seems that I will have to rely on the live scores of the Nihon Sumo Kyokai Website and then watch the clips on banzuke.com since my connection is not good enough to watch the live broadhast of NHK. And it was so nice being in Japan... No I can at least enjoy the football games. Go Greece European champions! Portugal with 20 gold medals in the Olympics!
