all division yusho

I am curious why this list on the Reference site doesn't list the number of yusho for individual wrestlers below Juryo. I find that info just as interest as the sekitori divisions. For example, Tosayutaka has taken the Makushita and Sandanme yushos twice each. That is just cool.

And this has got me curious, which wrestler in history has won the most non-sekitori division championships? I am horrible at figuring out the Queries on the Reference site, if it is possible to tweak it to show something like this.

Kuniazuma! Yokozuna of better worlds.

Nothing to Wander about. There is a reason for that of course-he was quite a strong rikishi (I'd put him at higher Makushita - lower Juryo) who regretfully was prone to injuries of the serious kind and kept dropping way down the Banzuke, where, upon return to health, he naturally dominated.

And was Brazilian too.

Tosayutaka and Tanzo are fighting for the top spot on this list for the time being.

I am obviously counting out Goeido for a lower division yusho anytime soon. Same goes for Tokitenku, Shohozan, Aoiyama and Jokoryu for the time being

Ikeru ... aka the "Jonokuchi killer" ... has a body made out of glass but how many yushos can a man "steal" from kids in the long run (Wearing a paperbag...)

Keitenkai also has a legitimate chance for the top.

What is the deal with this Ikeru guy? I figured he was someone who had been around a lot longer. He just keeps getting really hurt and then coming back? What is the nature of the injury? I have likely met him as I have been to Onomatsu-beya once or twice, but I don't remember. Perhaps I would've remembered if I'd known that. I know Kuniazuma by face, as I remember seeing him in the Kokugikan years back, but not knowing his name, in the years before I became more obsessed with sumo (or maybe before it became possible to look virtually anything up on sumo reference. :-) )

:-) Yeah, I thought the same thing, Mr. Golden Ball. I won't write out a dialog as I have seen here recently, but I can see him having a talk with his coach after each big injury. "What do you think coach, do you think I can bounce back yet again?" "Un, ikeru ikeru". If only that weren't his family name, and his heya had actually thunk up that shikona for him.

Funny thing in Japanese- Iku is go AND come.

I shall now hide.
