krindel 688 Posted January 12, 2014 Wow... Kise's loss must have put a biiiig damper on the local crowd enthusiasm for this basho. And Endo / Chiyotairyu / Myogiryu losing as well, doesn't help. Looking at the bout, it seems to me like Kise's left ankle gave way when pressed laterally? There was some report about a sprained ankle before the basho, wasn't there? ALAKTORN 346 Posted January 12, 2014 What the hell is up with Hakuhō? And is it normal for a rikishi to not hand the kenshō to the yobidashi?
bettega 433 Posted January 12, 2014 Does Hakuho have some grudge against Tochiozan? Seems like he tried to make some point.
Yubinhaad 11,975 Posted January 12, 2014 And is it normal for a rikishi to not hand the kenshō to the yobidashi? It was the last bout of the day, there is no next rikishi for the winner to hand the chikara-mizu to, so he goes straight back to the shitaku-beya.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 12, 2014 What the hell is up with Hakuhō? And is it normal for a rikishi to not hand the kenshō to the yobidashi? He is veeeeery generous, you know? ;-) (Although, I guess Tochiozan would disagree....)
Kintamayama 47,318 Posted January 12, 2014 Does Hakuho have some grudge against Tochiozan? Seems like he tried to make some point. Clearly, he did not like the matta, and even gave O3 a hefty push right after it.

Clearly, he did not like the matta, and even gave O3 a hefty push right after it. I`m watching sumo for not very long (in fact, only since Natsu 2011 - only 17 basho) and in that time I only saw Hakuho doing that was with Kise once and now. He must be pissed, really :D (I know henkas are despised in general, but that henka from Hauko after three matta was nice :D ) Edit: was Nagoya '12: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYlEl-E63dI Edited January 12, 2014 by bettega

Kintamayama 47,318 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) (I know henkas are despised in general, but that henka from Hauko after three matta was nice :D ) Henkas are despised by certain people. I love henkas. Henkas done by Yokozuna and Ozeki are despised by nearly everyone, including myself. A flamboyant, wowowow henka is a thing of beauty! My favorite Hakuho henka was also from Natsu, but 2005, vs Dejima. M6 Dejima was 5 years removed from his Ozeki days (and still 4 years or so from retirement). SE Hakuho thought Dejima was taking too long to start, so stood up - 3 times 2 times, and very obviously complained to the gyoji both times. When it did start.... Man, this banzuke has just been shredded in the last few weeks. I'm relatively new to sumo, so let me ask a naive question. Does the banzuke ever get edited after it's initially published? Does the banzuke ever get edited after it's initially published? The banzuke is set in concrete about 3 days after each basho, but not announced and published until 2-3 weeks before the start of the next basho. People can die, retire, get injured, etc. in the interim, but the banzuke does not change.

Ajisen 15 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Special guest today was Daemon but the very special guest to me was former Miyabiyama. Good to see him back on screen. Daemaon then did the past present and future stars of sumo. Nice run down on 2013 with clips of Miyabiyama and Robo and Baruto. Then came the Kise-promo clips "worthy opponent " of the Yokozuna. Very telling they (Japanese commentators) consider the worthy opponent is Hakuho not Harumafuji. NB Ross is a KISS fan. Who knew??
