kuroimori 1,633 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Surprised nobody posted this already so I jump in Kanto-sho (Fighting Spirit Prize): Ikioi Gino-sho (Technique Prize): Chiyotairyu Shukun-sho (Outstanding Performance Award): no sho(w) First sansho ever for both 11-4 rikishi - and banzuke neighbors (maegashira 6) Edited November 24, 2013 by kuroimori
Pippooshu 1 Posted November 24, 2013 I thought the inverse: Gino-sho for Ikioi and Kanto-sho for Chiyotairyu.

The_Arrow87 7 Posted November 24, 2013 Technique prize for Chiyotairyu? He had a great basho, but he mostly won via tsuki/oshi sumo. Not really much else. But maybe I'm wrong about kanto sho / gino sho. Maybe it's just me but when I think of technical sumo I rather think of nage, hineri, leg-techniques like Sotogake and so on. But I'm sure there's something I just don't understand yet.
Yubinhaad 10,222 Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Technique prize for Chiyotairyu? He had a great basho, but he mostly won via tsuki/oshi sumo. Not really much else. I think that's exactly why he won the award - he went with proper tsuki-oshi sumo and, if I remember correctly, didn't resort to any pulling. Tsuki-oshi sumo may not be as beautifully subtle as an uchimuso or as spectacular as an izori, but getting it right is just as much of a fine art. Oops, and I almost forgot the voting results of the sansho committee. 18 members this time, still 10 votes needed for a sansho to be awarded. Nobody was nominated for a Shukun-sho, and only the two winners were nominated for the others. Kanto-sho: Ikioi, 16 votes. Gino-sho: Chiyotairyu, 13 votes.
