Oh, boy! That roar when Hakuho hit the deck was really something.

I just loved the reaction of the guy on the left of the screen; the one sitting between the oyakata and the guy in the orange vest.

Funny mono-ii explanation at the Shohozan vs. Homasho bout:

Takanohana chief judge: "I will explain the decision. The gyoji pointed to rikishi A, but..... rikishi B won!."

Where was the explanation???

Well, back when he was the full-time chief judge he wanted to make the mono-ii explanations easier to understand for casual fans. Looks like he has achieved the platonic ideal now. ;-)

What were the audience doing? The Japanese version of the Mexican wave? LOL.

Wow, what a great bout by Kise!

But.... Myogiryu lost. Last hope in vain gone for him to get the yusho.

Great bout from Kisenosato indeed! This is the second time this year he defeated the two yokozuna; Wonderful! I hope he could keep calm tomorrow and get his 13th shiroboshi.

Well, Kise should win tomorrow, make a 13x2 Jun-Yusho and double-Yok victories. Another Yokozuna run?

It's Kises 5th win against Haruma in a row and for the last 4 bashos he always had the better overall result, in 3 of them he got the Jun-Yusho. He is constantly better than one of the Yoks aka Harumafuji.

Either it shows Yokozuna-quality on the one side or the lack thereof on the other...

Mmmmhh... What consequences to take out of that??

I think Kise needs at least one Yusho in Makuushi. Haru has 5 Yusho... Kise has none.

Kise can beat the Yoks all he wants but, while he keeps losing to the likes of Aminishki on day three and until he takes a Yusho, he isn't Yok worthy. Having said that this will be his 4th straight jun-yusho and he has only dropped below double digit wins twice in the last 18 bashos. That's serious high quality consistency. If he can take a yusho, consider him a lock for Yokozuna, and he will be thoroughly deserving. But he has to get that yusho

It’s really too sad that Kisenosato goes on to make this amazing performance but won’t have a shot at the yūshō because of that loss to Aminishiki. Really sad. Here’s hoping that the 2014 hatsu basho has the 3 top rikishi all fighting for yūshō to the end.

@Kintamayama - do you think Takarafuji will risk his neck to get kachikoshi tomorrow ?

On a more serious note, it would be nice to see Satoyama back in Makuuchi after more than 6 years.

Day 13: 5116 spectators

http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20131123/sum13112305010003-n1.html

Endo had expected (like Kyokutenho) to go make-koshi earlier.

Satoyama would have the longest time for a return to makuuchi if he makes it this basho: 38 basho. Wakanoyama has made it after 29.

... I think it won't be fighting neck to neck, because - well you know the reason why, thanks to Kintamayama...

^A comment from that video:

“九州場所の座布団は一人用ではないので

飛ばせない。観客の感情表現が万歳になったんだ。”

More or less: “The zabuton in the Kyūshū basho are not for single-person use, so they don’t fly. The audience’s emotion became a shout of banzai”

Thought it was interesting.

By the way, it seems like these videos have many comments from the Japanese saying that the banzai was disgraceful because it was rude to Hakuhō / a sign of racism. I really didn’t see it like that. I thought it was fun for the Japanese to be supporting Kisenosato that way, and I’m a Hakuhō fan.

I wanted Hak win, but what amazing atmosphere and tension, i haven't been able to watch the basho live this time round so i regret that, but wow, great stuff.

Kisenosato finishes the six honbasho this year with a

7-5 record against the Yokozuna - but he also gave up 6 ginboshi which didn't really help his bid to become Yokozuna.

That was an epic fight. Watching the replays, I like how Kise did such a good job of preventing Hakuho from getting his double-grip. And then had the wherewithal to know that if Hakuho didn't get his preferred grip, the yok would immediately switch to something else. A year ago, Kise could have managed the first step, only to be surprised and thrown down by the second.

Meanwhile Hak...I love that guy. Grab, grab...no second hand? Okay, we'll switch to a one-handed belt throw. It's...his technical repetoire is so impressive. The first technique gets stymied, he doesn't wait around trying to get it. Not like the lower maegashira that basically have a solitary winning technique and they're going to do it, come hell or high water! Hak just switches so quickly, so smoothly and effortlessly to something else.

If Kise can become this solid for 15 days, the yuusho competition is going to be a beautiful thing.

Can anyone please explain to me the logic behind the matchups for last day?

Osunaarashi and Yoshikaze are paired for their respective KK against already MK opponents that are waaaaay above them in rank, while they haven't fought each other yet, and I assume they could be paired together...

Takekaze, on the other hand, doesn't get matched with either Sadanofuji or Takarafuji but instead, they all get rikishi that are both already KK and below them in rank (in the cases of Sadanofuji and Takekaze MUCH lower in rank too).

I think there's a logic I am missing here...
