Itachi 396 Posted November 7, 2013 Hi Everyone,Until further notice, the game will run just as it has the last few times. I will compile the results and post them as best as I can on this thread. This is a pre-basho game where each player selects a rikishi from each of 8 sections of the banzuke. The player earns points for each win, each kachikoshi, and each yusho earned by their team of 8 rikishi. The sections of the banzuke are these:Sanyaku (Y through K)MaegashiraJuryoUpper Makushita (Ms1-15 )Lower Makushita (Ms16-60 plus tsukedashi if any)SandanmeJonidanJonokuchiThat's it! Simple to understand, difficult to master. The hallmarks of any engaging game. Please send your 8 selections to me before the beginning of action on Shonichi.Itachi: nmatsuo@shaw.ca or by pm here at the forumAs a reminder, I am only a temporary caretaker of this game until Oshirokita can address the reconstruction of his system. All banzuke, website, and records updates will be on hold until then but the game itself and results postings will continue here on this thread.Good luck with your picks.Don't forget to check the kyujo list and email any replacements that may become necessary!Itachi

Itachi 396 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) I have received entries from 13 players (including myself) and I've set up the drones. Here are the 13 players in no particular order: Chishafuwaku Flohru Oshirokita Profomisakari Kuroimori Achiyama Itachi Torafujii Vikanohara Toonoryu Senkoho Gonzaburow Higoviki I'll prepare the Day 1 results and reveal everyone's selections tomorrow morning. The first 7 of these 13 also made an entry for the Sandanme Game (and the last one). The Sandanme Game received 12 entries but 4 of them did not participate in this one. *edited to add a player who sent their entry to Oshirokita only Edited November 10, 2013 by Itachi

Itachi 396 Posted November 10, 2013 The dohyo-iri/team results and standings for Day 1 are displayed in the 3 posts above this one. A few of you had selected kyujo rikishi Sunaga for Jonokuchi without sending me any replacement. The default replacement is Mukashi's choice, Hokutoryu. At least one of you selected Hokutoryu deliberately which should encourage those of you who got him accidentally.

Itachi 396 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) The tables are updated for Day 8. At the mid point, we have three players tied for the lead (Vikanohara, Toonoryu, Achiyama). They have very similar teams with 5 of their 8 rikishi common to all three. Genzai and Kuroimori also share those 5 rikishi (Hakuho, Terunofuji, Amuru, Horikiri, Keitenkai) but remain 2 points behind with Flohru and Torafujii who have the same score with fewer common rikishi. See the tables above for the details. Edited November 20, 2013 by Itachi
Itachi 396 Posted November 20, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 11. Vikanohara has a small lead over Flohru and Torafujii. Vikanohara's main advantage appears to be his choice of Chiyotairyu for Maegashira.
Itachi 396 Posted November 22, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 12. Vikanohara remains in the lead but Achiyama is just one point away. These two share 6 of their 8 rikishi. Achiyama has the yusho winner in Jonokuchi, Kotoninsei, vs. Vikanohara's Tochisato. Each of them has a bout left. The other difference is at the Maegashira spot where Vikanohara has Chiyotairyu and Achiyama has Gagamaru. Gaga-zeki could still earn a kachikoshi point for Achiyama while Chiyotairyu already has that. It seems Achiyama has more opportunties to earn points. This may end up in a tie. Flohru and Torafujii are just 2 points away and they have more different rikishi. Flohru can earn extra points over Vikanohara if Osunaarashi gets his kachikoshi or if Tosayutaka wins the yusho in Makushita. Torafujii can get another kachikoshi point if Gagamaru earns his and also has a chance at yusho points for his Juryo pick, Chiyootori. Everyone else is too far back with too few opportunities to gain points on the leaders.
Itachi 396 Posted November 22, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 13. The top 4 players all have a chance to win or tie for the top score. Flohru leads with 69 points - 3 points ahead of Torafujii, Vikanohara, and Achiyama. Ignoring rikishi common to all four contenders, Flohru can gain 6 more points, Torafujii 9, Vikanohara 5, and Achiyama 6. Flohru can win in many ways if the other contenders don't maximize their points. Torafujii can win in several ways if Flohru doesn't maximize his points. Achiyama can finish in a tie for the lead with one or all of the others except Vikanohara in a variety of ways. Vikanohara could finish in a tie with the others except Achiyama but only if Gagamaru doesn't earn his kk. If Gagamaru gets his 8th win, Achiyama will finish at least one point ahead of Vikanohara. Itachi 396 Posted November 23, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 14. Torafujii and Flohru are tied for the lead. Either player could win or tie for the yusho. Ignoring the common rikishi, Flohru can gain 3 points and Torafujii can gain 6. A win by Chiyootori would guarantee Torafujii at least a tie for the yusho since he would get the 2 yusho points as well as the win. Achiyama and Vikanohara are 1 and 2 points behind the leaders respectively. Ignoring rikishi common to all 4 players, Achiyama and Vikanohara can each gain 3 points. 2 of Achiyama's potential points are shared by Torafujii and the other by Flohru. If he gets all 3 and the leaders don't get any other points, Achiyama would win. There are other scenarios that would result in ties for Achiyama. Vikanohara cannot win outright but he can tie if he gets all 3 potential points while the leaders get no other points. One of his points is common to Torafujii and another common to Flohru. Both of these are also common to Achiyama. This scenario would result in a 4-way tie! That would be wins by Chiyotairyu, Terunofuji, and Ishiura with losses for Gagamaru, Chiyootori, Aokishin, and Osunaarashi - an unlikely scenario? Has there ever been a 4-way tie for the yusho in this game before?
Itachi 396 Posted November 24, 2013 The tables are updated for the final standings! Torafujii, with some help from Chiyootori, avoided all the complicated scenarios that could have resulted in ties and cleanly won the yusho with a 5 point margin and a score of 75! The last three contenders, Flohru, Vikanohara, and Achiyama finished in a tie at 70 points and share the jun-yusho. This tournament, no one selected the yusho winners in Makuuchi or Sandanme but all the other divisional yusho winners appeared on at least one team. Thanks to everyone for playing and to Oshirokita for creating this engaging contest!
Toratorii 11 Posted November 26, 2013 The competition has been strong. I congratulate the 3 who made jun-yusho. It has been some time since I've shown my top rank ability (from Oshirokita website days). I miss Azumashida. It feels good to know I can still pick the winners. Gonzaburow and Achiyama, you've done well lately! It's difficult to maintain a strong run. Thanks, Itachi, for reviving this game.
