If the Big Sandstorm had made shin-nyumaku wouldn't we have heard something by now?

No. But he knows.

No. But he knows.

Is he allowed to make the announcement on his own?

I seem to recall Jokoryu getting rebuked for inadvertedly "announcing" his demotion after his first Makuuchi basho.

Definitely not. Not even a hint.

He does have a tendency to write things on Facebook. He should be careful - the bosses don't like this. I remember Harumafuji writing on his blog that he had a fever and they came down on him like a brick wall.

So, that's why he has dodgy ankles!

Among the many memorable moments of this basho was the last day's bout Takarafuji - Takayasu, the moment where Takarafuji spread his arm wide to survive the deadly force down. He gained balance again and went on to win the bout. This move looked embarrasingly awkward on one hand, but proved to be incredibly effective in turning an utterly hopeless position. This moment was so beautiful, and is very close to the essence what I enjoy in Sumo.

Sure, these two are not the most skilful rikishi ozumo has ever seen, others might have saved Takaras position in a more elegant way, another would have still finished Takarafuji off - but this does not matter.
