Asashosakari 20,287 Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) Day 6 / Group A: The missing Tatsunami duo finally chucks in their salt and joins the fray, while Asakayama's Nakatsuji was absent today. Results: Mz3 Eguchi (0-3) Mz6 Nakamurayama (1-2) Mz15 Yamazaki (1-2) Mz25 Otaki (0-3) Mz32 Sasaki (1-0-2) Mz49 Yamashita (0-3) Mz33 Ishinoda (1-0-2) Mz50 Nakaishi (0-3) Mz23 Sakai (1-2) Mz16 Imaizumi (2-1) Mz34 Okamoto (2-1) Mz26 Nakata (1-2) Mz45 Kawamoto (1-3) Mz38 Akutsu (2-2) Most of the kids who know what they're doing have already left the competition after Day 4/5, and it shows here. It doesn't help that Group A was arguably the much weaker of the two sections in the first place. We'll know by Day 9. Speaking of which, Day 8/9 will be the final round. Edited March 24, 2014 by Asashosakari
Asashosakari 20,287 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) Day 8 / Group A: Nakatsuji returned to action, making for a very clean schedule with eight 1-win and four 0-win rikishi: Results: Mz23 Sakai (1-3) Mz6 Nakamurayama (2-2) Mz32 Sasaki (2-0-2) Mz15 Yamazaki (1-3) Mz33 Ishinoda (2-0-2) Mz26 Nakata (1-3) Mz45 Kawamoto (2-3) Mz41 Nakatsuji (1-2-1) Mz49 Yamashita (0-4) Mz3 Eguchi (1-3) Mz50 Nakaishi (1-3) Mz25 Otaki (0-4) Mz23 Sakai (1-4) Mz15 Yamazaki (2-3) Mz26 Nakata (1-4) Mz41 Nakatsuji (2-2-1) Mz23 Sakai (1-5) Mz3 Eguchi (2-3) Mz26 Nakata (1-5) Mz50 Nakaishi (2-3) Two wins for Eguchi and Nakaishi to achieve the late qualification, while Sakai and Nakata lost three straight today. Yamazaki-Sakai has ended up being the only repeated match on this side of the competition, again with the opposite winner from before (Day 4). The two late-joining Tatsunami rikishi made short work of it and probably would have finished earlier than today if they had competed from the start. On a side note, they really are trying hard to keep rikishi from one stable on the same side. Entering today's session, the four 0-win rikishi came from the shitaku-beya like this: East: Eguchi (Kokonoe) West: Otaki (Azumazeki), Yamashita (Matsugane), Nakaishi (Matsugane) Easy solution to even the sides - just move Otaki to the East, right? But they also had Nakata (1-2) from Azumazeki-beya sitting with him on the West side, so instead of separating the two Azumazeki kids, they moved both Matsugane deshi to the East and Eguchi to the West. Anyway, the final sorted standings for this group: Qualified: #01 Mz10 Nagao Kasugano 2-0 #03 Mz11 Yahagi Kasugano 2-0 #05 Mz12 Taniguchi Kasugano 2-0 #07 Mz20 Miura Shibatayama 2-0 #09 Mz21 Nakatani Michinoku 2-0 #11 Mz46 Oshimayama Miyagino 2-0 #13 Mz5 Mori Hakkaku 2-1 #15 Mz27 Niina Azumazeki 2-1 #17 Mz37 Takakurayama Onoe 2-2 ----------------------------------------- #19 Mz16 Imaizumi Asahiyama 2-1 #21 Mz34 Okamoto Tatsunami 2-1 #23 Mz38 Akutsu Onoe 2-2 #27 Mz6 Nakamurayama Hakkaku 2-2 #29 Mz32 Sasaki Tatsunami 2-0-2 #31 Mz33 Ishinoda Tatsunami 2-0-2 #33 Mz45 Kawamoto Miyagino 2-3 #35 Mz15 Yamazaki Asakayama 2-3 #37 Mz41 Nakatsuji Asakayama 2-2-1 #39 Mz3 Eguchi Kokonoe 2-3 #40 Mz50 Nakaishi Matsugane 2-3 Remaining order: #41 Mz26 Nakata Azumazeki 1-5 (won on Day 4 in bout 10) #43 Mz23 Sakai Otake 1-5 (won on Day 4 in bout 8) #45 Mz25 Otaki Azumazeki 0-4 #47 Mz49 Yamashita Matsugane 0-4 The numbered order is almost certainly wrong and will need to be adjusted based on tomorrow's results in the other group. (I don't even dare predict any numbers for the rikishi with fewer than two wins.) The rikishi order itself should be correct though. Incidentally, I see something went wrong with my formulas on Day 6 and all the losing rikishi were highlighted in red by mistake. It's been fixed now, but I'm sure you knew it anyway. :-) Next day edit: Numbers fixed now. Edited March 17, 2014 by Asashosakari
Asameshimae 220 Posted March 17, 2014 *Personal highlight - gyoji saying Nakata ni Nakatani. This didn't seem overly funny until I actually heard it on the video. I rewound it just to hear it again. :)

On a side note, I have absolutely no idea why they've ranked the four 1-win rikishi as Nakata/Akashi/Sakai/Komatsu instead of the proper Sakai/Nakata/Akashi/Komatsu. Asashosakari 20,287 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) The second presentation...Oshimayama who missed his spot in the first one got to appear this time: Never trust the pronunciation of jonokuchi yobidashi and gyoji; apparently it was actually Shonannoumi and Shoki all along, not Shoranoumi and Shohoki. In addition Takasago's Kasai is now Asakasai, and the Tatsunami trio Sasaki/Ichinoda/Okamoto has been renamed to Kitadaichi/Byakkomaru/Kokuryunami (at least if my ears haven't betrayed me again). I've edited the kanji into the tables posted earlier in the thread. Official confirmation from the Kyokai site will presumably come in the next few days, so far only the shikona for the Day 5 qualifiers have appeared.
