This basho no InsideOut with Kyokudozan on BS11 - BS Fuji Gappuri soken is not on Youku so far - it was early there last basho - the CM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmYrNWzZEPg

Demon's Ohayo Nippon pre-basho corner had the focus on Abi and Endo, and on Kisenosato, who also was the subject of the Illustrated explanation by now NHK top sumo announcer Kariya: Kise waking over a bridge under construction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLLCjbpEl0s&t=106m

the NHK news Shibu5ji Nomachi Mineko pre-basho corner had the focus on Kitanofuji, esp. his fashion - sumo-wise on Tochinoshin and more detailed on Kyokutaisei: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Zg4BWx7sg&t=43m50s

Both videos gone - I'll search for other versions - Demon found

The TV Tokyo Sports Watcher special on Kyokutenho's Tomozuna-beya has not appeared anywhere yet

I don’t know if this was already posted or if it’s even the right topic so sorry in advance but… this vid is amazing, Hakuhō explaining various sumō techniques (how to break a grip, how to effectively get one, how he breathes at tachiai, etc.…)

Today an episode of TBS "The Friday" with one part about Wakanojo

After intai he became an office worker and 2 years later needed a kidney transplant - his mother was the donor

Yesterday Wakanojo was the rikishi example in a special of the series about vanished genius-athletes and what they do now. He now works, with ex-Wakatenro and ex-Wakatoba, in care for the elderly, preparing chanko for them and pleasing them by doing sumo in rikishi suits. The problem that hindered and ended his career at 31 was the diabetes he had developed at age 18.

Starting at 3:30min, till 24min. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6l4968

Data mentioned:

Average age of retirement is 24.5, 95% leave the NSK: close to 50% end up in the restaurant business, 2nd most as care workers, 3rd as seitai practitioners.

70% of the rikishi develop diabetes type 2 due to their eating and drinking habits.

TBS so far has managed to avoid videos to be available for both the Tochinoshin and the Hakuho documentary.

The only new sumo related program available is this quiz for Demon - you can try how many of the 50 questions you can answer: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ldiuf

and an off topic: TBS Jonetsu Tairiku about female sumo athlete Nozaki Mana http://www.pandora.tv/view/gogoucc/56113129/

Not that many sumo programs before the basho this time - maybe InsideOut will be again after the basho

Demon's Ohayo Nippon pre-basho corner - focus on new ozeki Tochinoshin - recently his prediction and final  performance are cut out by NHK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la7gum9MtxQ&t=111m10s

Shibu 5ji was interesting, with a piece on Meisei and the lodgings of the new Nishiiwa-beya at its first Nagoya-basho - unfortunately so far extremely low res only: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u63VdpOnPFk&t=51m2s

Inhashi and also Asojima have opened a new possibility for us to watch sumo programs with FujiTV.live - I've put the info into the tips and tools thread.

The best pre-basho programs:

022 BS Japan, Jul. 8th 01:00 a.m. Sportsウォッチャー, a TV Tokyo special about Chiyomaru, the heya and the oyakata, starting at 4min, about 27m

023 BS Fuji, Jul. 1st 14:00-15:25 『感動!大相撲がっぷり総見』Gappuri soken with ex-Kotonishiki

also not bad:

002 NHK Eテレ Jul. 4th 18:55- 19:25「未知たび!」▽「行司」編 about (young) gyoji

While scanning through the FujiTV.live programs, I found a  film about the story of Fusanishiki till Natsu 1957, with himself, other rikishi and oyakata and a few actors enacting real sumo, real scenes mixed with drama scenes - NSK cooperation, released March 1958, when there still was the dream of getting to yokozuna.

046 衛星劇場 Jul. 9th 08:30-10:00  土俵物語 Dohyo Monogatari

repeat on the 21st and 26th: http://www.eigeki.com/series?id=17200&category_id=4&ym=201807

info about the film https://eiga.com/movie/72806/

The feeble son of a gyoji dreams of a career in sumo, as Fusanishiki at last makes it to a bout officiated by his father, sanyaku gyoji Shikimori Kindayu, loses it on day 11 Natsu 57,  but gets another chance on day 14 and in the end receives the kachi-nanori from his father on the dohyo.
