2013 Nagoya - Kimarite Statistics

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the delay folks, here are the kimarite statistics for all divisions in this basho.

Things got off to a great start thanks to Jonokuchi yusho winner Ikeru, who produced a fine ipponzeoi in only the second bout of the basho. That was the first of the year, and a second was added later by Hamadayama.

Ikeru also added a tasukizori six days later. It wasn't quite as nice as the one from Satonofuji in March, but hey, all zori-te are gratefully accepted here. :-) In addition, Ikeru provided the first of two zubuneri in this basho, but only the second was really a throw.

Slender Aragyoshi clinched his kachi-koshi with this kekaeshi victory, but more entertaining was his opening okurinage win against the much heavier Dewanojo.

I always like to see a good kakenage, and there were five of those this basho. The first was the best of them for me, with a great effort from Tosahikari to stay in the bout and then a bit of a slow-motion kakenage. Another favourite is nichonage, and this basho produced the first one of 2013, a nice and neat example from Toseima.

Also five kirikaeshi this basho, with Kotomatsuo involved in the first two, winning a long bout against rookie Takagenji and then losing quickly against Satonofuji. Kimishima's win against Dewadaiki was the pick of the bunch, though.

For the third basho in a row there were a couple of amiuchi, and in the middle of the basho there was a fairly rare kubihineri as well.

Thanks for your work and thanks for the links to the bouts in the database. Gives an amateur like me a good possibility to see these kimarite in action.

I'm just wondering about this one:

there was a fairly rare kubihineri as well.

Under this bout the database is not linking to a video of this single bout, but to a lengthy 1 hour recording. I was just wondering if this might be a mistake in the database or for some reason deliberate or work in progress...

The DB link points to the time in the lengthy recording where the match begins. This method is used where there is not an individual recording for the match. Clicking on the link shows the desired match and then all of the following matches in the recording. Edited by Asojima

I think the technique summary is one of the best posts to come out of each basho. It's a bloody shame I'm only allowed to like this once.

But... ...would you pay for it?

(Scratching chin...)
