Former juryo 11 Mutetsuyama (42) died today

Cause unknown, found dead in his bedroom, no date for the funeral yet.

He was amateur yokozuna in 1990.

Far too young. :-( After his retirement he became a sumo instructor at Toyo University-affiliated Ushiku High School.

Here he is on the right at the 60th All-Japan Amateur Championships a couple of years ago:

Ex-Sekiwake Wakachichibu (Tokiwayama Oyakata) has died yesterday.

Liver failure. The funeral will take place on Tuesday in Tokyo.

It has become known today that former ms37 Musashiumi and then pro-wrestler Jun Izumida had been found dead on the 31st. The police assumes that he died around the 25th from a heart attack, the funeral already took place. He was only 51. http://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/prores/mens_prores/649274/

I am sorry for him, and may he rest in peace.  But no one found him for a week? Ew... no sense of smell in Japan?

2 former rikishi who had turned pro-wrestlers have died recently.

Former ms Sendai (Daigo Tetsunosuke https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/大剛鉄之助) died on the 4th at age 75. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/news/201711060000307.html

Katsuhikari was an ironman. He never missed a match. 888 consecutive matches. PS- He was also briefly Isegahama Oyakata.

Today was the funeral service for ex-Tokoju - Oyama-oyakata from Takasago-ichimon and active Tokoyama attended - because of the soken, not so many more from the NSK
