Itachi 396 Posted July 4, 2013 Hi Everyone, Until further notice, the game will run just as it has the last couple of times. I will compile the results and post them as best as I can on this thread. This is a pre-basho game where each player selects a rikishi from each of 8 sections of the banzuke. The player earns points for each win, each kachikoshi, and each yusho earned by their team of 8 rikishi. The sections of the banzuke are these: Sanyaku (Y through K) Maegashira Juryo Upper Makushita (Ms1-15 ) Lower Makushita (Ms16-60 plus tsukedashi if any) Sandanme Jonidan Jonokuchi That's it! Simple to understand, difficult to master. The hallmarks of any engaging game. Please send your 8 selections to me before the beginning of action on Shonichi. Itachi: nmatsuo@shaw.ca or by pm here at the forum As a reminder, I am only a temporary caretaker of this game until Oshirokita can address the reconstruction of his system. All banzuke, website, and records updates will be on hold until then but the game itself and results postings will continue here on this thread. Good luck with your picks. Don't forget to check the kyujo list and email any replacements that may become necessary! Itachi

Itachi 396 Posted July 8, 2013 The standings and detailed results for Day 2 are posted above. For the detailed tables, I have been arranging them manually in order of the current standings but I won't have time to do that every day. Today, they are arranged in the default order which is roughly in the order that I received your entries. Good luck on Day 3 and thanks for playing!
Itachi 396 Posted July 9, 2013 The standings and detailed results for each team are updated for Day 3. Last time I didn't have the teams arranged in standings order because I had forgotten about the system I had set up to do it automatically. This morning, I remembered how to use it and they will be arranged properly from now.

Itachi 396 Posted July 11, 2013 The tables have been updated for Day 5. Gonzaburow shares the lead with the drone Genzai that represents the most popular choices. Fortunately for Gonzaburow he did not choose the most popular Maegashira, Tochinoshin, who appears to be injured.
Achiyama 1,276 Posted July 11, 2013 It's very unfortunate to have an injured rikishi on your squad. Even if the other choices are perfect this only pick can screw up the whole basho. As you know many other games have substitutes for such cases. And nobody can predict which rikishi will get injured. I have a suggestion, and open it for discussion: I suggest when we submit our teams to submit also a back-up team (of all positions as they are from different divisions). In case of an injury of a rikishi from team "A", for the rest of the basho he will be replaced with the corresponding rikishi from the back-up team (team "B"). What do you think? Is it doable?
Itachi 396 Posted July 12, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 6. As for replacements, I understand the frustration. It's happened to me a few times, including this basho. This isn't the only game affected by kyujo. Luck is an element of this and every sumo game to a degree. I would be reluctant to make any fundamental changes to this games without the approval of its creator, Oshirokita. Also, I'm not sure that a majority of regular players would want the change. Some of us like this game partly for its simplicity. I used to encourage players of the Sandanme Game to select a back-up team but very few ever did. I doubt many players of this game would be enthusiastic about it either. I pick back-up teams for all pre-basho entries but I believe I'm in the minority. As for the 'doability', I could easily replace a kyujo rikishi and his record with a replacement and their record but it would be cumbersome to combine the injured rikishi's scores before going kyujo with the replacement's scores afterwards. Any other thoughts on this? Good luck on Day 7!

Itachi 396 Posted July 18, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 12. Gonzaburow has a small lead over Jejima. I haven't incorporated any yusho scores yet. Maybe some of the yusho have been decided already. I'll look for that tomorrow.
Itachi 396 Posted July 19, 2013 The tables are updated for Day 13. Gonzaburow is looking good with a 3 win lead. Second place Jejima can't gain any new kk or yusho but he does have 4 bouts left by rikishi not on Gonzaburow's team so victory is not impossible for him - yet. Itachi 396 Posted July 21, 2013 The tables are updated with the final standings. Congratulations to Gonzaburow who wins the yusho! Jejima finished 2 points behind in second place thanks in part to his unusual decision to choose Sokokurai (unless Tochinoshin would have been his next choice). Thanks for playing everyone! Itachi 396 Posted July 22, 2013 The tables are updated with the final standings. I guess it still shows the standings after day 14, no ? Thanks for pointing that out. I had replaced all the team detail tables and then I probably forgot that I hadn't replaced the standings table. In the other threads, I have the standings table in the first post but here it comes after. Anyway, I've replaced it now.
