Terunofuji with tachi-mochi Midorifuji and Takarafuji - I still haven't seen a precise explanation why he is back as attendant again in spite of Nishikifuji being ranked higher, my guess is as a favour because he might soon retire. More than the usual ex-rikishi problems? He had recurrent episodes of back pain while active, and a flare up may explain his walking at the start of the clip. Worth noting he retired at 38 and is now 50, even if it feels like he retired not that long ago relative to his generation. He doesn't look that bad for an ex-rikishi at 50, tbh. Akinomaki 41,849 Posted August 17, 2023 (edited) Terunofuji today did a dohyo-iri on the dohyo at the Yahiko shrine in Yahiko village, Niigata, which has a strong connection to Isegahama-beya - about 1000 watched. The heya had regular training camps there before Corona times. In the morning Terunofuji did a shrine visit with his attendants and the oyakata - and Inosuke. There also was public keiko on the dohyo with their tsukebito, sumo with kids, mage making and taiko. So happy to have Teru and the Isegahama Gang back after four Covid years away. Hopefully next year they can resume the weeklong training camps. Midorifuji & Takarafuji were on hand for Yokozuna attendant duties and to lend their chest to the two lower rankers, and also to take on the local children, but did no sparing themselves. It still blows me away the extent to which Midorifuji has built up his body compared to his first appearance in Yahiko, when he couldn't have weighed 90 kilos. Takarafuji served as model for a hairdressing demonstration. Takerufuji did do a bit of sparring with a smaller Minorufuji, and demonstrated an impressive physique & sumo. rhyen 1,858 Posted November 15, 2024 A heads up for 2027. for the (every 25 years) renewal ceremony rituals at the Daizafu Tenmangu (incoming 2027), there will be a yokozuna dohyo-iri assuming there are eligible yokozuna on the banzuke. i found a commemorative photo of Wajima and Kitanoumi post ceremony for 1977, I don’t know who did it for 2002. the connection to sumo, other than Isegahama heya is that Nomi no Sukune is Fujiwara no Michizane’s ancestor. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
