Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted May 26, 2013 The makuuchi yusho race was closer than the final scores of 15-0 for Hakuho and 13-2 for Kisenosato indicate as both were 13-0 ging into day 14. But one can also argue the race wasn't even as close as the final scores indicate as Kisenosato simply wasn't a match for Hakuho in the current form. Any talk of yokozuna promotion clearly is premature anyway. The yokozuna and ozeki in general were pretty strong this basho, even Kotooshu engineered the kachi-koshi saving win on senshuraku. On the flip side only Myogiryu had a good score among the rest of the joi-jin, so it's likely that Goeido saved his sekiwake rank with his win today despite the 7-8 final score. Some further attrition on the last day leads to Takekaze and Tokitenku as likely komusubi candidates, not really improving the situation for next basho. Toyonoshima took the hardest hit as his loss may mean the difference between komusubi and M5 next basho. The juryo yusho was decided in a straight bout between Kotoyuki and Tokushoryu with Kotoyuki clearly scoring a quick tsukidashi win and clinching his first career yusho in any division. Kagamio finished with an excellent 12-3 and will be in the upper juryo half next basho. Tochinowaka also won and is the other juryo rikishi with double digit wins staying in this division as his aite Tamawashi will be back in makuuchi along with Tamaasuka, Kotoyuki and Tokushoryu. Kitaharima, Kimurayama and Chiyoo are headed back to makushita and the bottom of juryo looks rather crowded to me, some lucky under-demotions seem to be necessary. bettega 422 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) I'm seeing this right? In 54 basho in Makuuchi Hakuho had 41 Yusho/Jun-Yusho? That`s more than 75%! For about 9 years he decided 3 in each 4 basho! Edited May 26, 2013 by bettega
krindel 671 Posted May 26, 2013 Hope to be proven wrong, but the jo'i for the next basho below Sekiwake is looking like one of the weakest sets ever... And I should not forget, thank you very much Doitsuyama for all your efforts, both with the daily result digest and the database :-)
Asashosakari 18,652 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) Hope to be proven wrong, but the jo'i for the next basho below Sekiwake is looking like one of the weakest sets ever...It's not so bad besides the likely two komusubi. Next in line to fill the rest of the top 16 ought to be Shohozan, Takayasu, Tochiozan, Gagamaru, Chiyotairyu and one out of Aminishiki/Kyokutenho/Fujiazuma. That's an okay lineup in my book other than the last guy (if it's not Ami) and maybe Takayasu. Edited May 26, 2013 by Asashosakari

That's an okay lineup in my book other than the last guy (if it's not Ami) and maybe Takayasu. Well, true, maybe not as bad as it looks at first glance, but just Baruto's (and Aminishiki's if he doesn't make it) loss from the lineup counts for a lot, and even Toyonoshima is a guy capable of upsets... Gagamaru has so far been outmatched when in the jo'i and Chiyotairyu is a mystery... On the other hand, I have to admit that my reasoning has a big flaw, since the current batch of jo'i did not actually end the basho in such shining glory that the new batch will have trouble living up to :-)
