Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted May 16, 2013 The two Sadogatake ozeki caused the first losses for ozeki this basho, but admittedly against strong opponents in Myogiryu and Goeido, the first one already scoring a kinboshi this basho and the latter in his seventh straight basho as a sekiwake (thanks to some banzuke luck but still) and trying to build an ozeki run on the 10-5 last basho. Takekaze and Tokitenku also suffered the first loss of the basho, but the remaining four leaders Hakuho, Kisenosato, Kakuryu and Aoiyama had no problems, all beating up winless opponents. Komusubi Tochiozan got the first win of the basho, giving Harumafuji the second loss already. Of course Tochiozan is much better than the 0-4 record indicated and generally is giving Harumafuji trouble (now 7-9 against him), but still this is looking like the next bad basho in the works for the yokozuna. Tokushoryu stayed the sole juryo leader with a win over enigmatic Tochinowaka, with four of the seven pursuers staying one win behind, among them Takanoyama beating Homasho with a tsukidashi by always being ahead of the moves of the bigger opponent. And yet he is still doing fairly good to remain in Makuuchi for some time I think.
