Doitsuyama 1,150 Posted May 16, 2013 I wonder what Shoho is doing to lull his opponents to a straight tachi-ai despite knowing fully well that he is the master of the fine art of henka. Seiro bulled forward and to noones surprise found himself lying down a second later. The other lead makushita Yoshizuma won against Arawashi and should be less susceptible in a likely upcoming matchup with Shoho - not so much because of experience or brains but just because he does have a slow tachi-ai anyway. Well, scratch that, I think he next faces the loser of Kotomisen vs. Endo. Wakamisho and Takatoshi are the early 3-0 leaders of the upper half with Chiyosakae doing well further down. Hamaguchi is defending his make-koshi less start in Ozumo and won against Sensho for his second win. The newest Mongolian Daishoho is doing well in his first jonokuchi basho, starting 3-0 with two wins over two other 2-0 mae-zumo participants and a rikishi returning after missing basically three basho. kuroimori 1,634 Posted May 16, 2013 I was as well astounded that Mr. Henka was allowed to sidestep again. Looks like their is not much scouting or at least pre-match briefing done in Ozumo.
aderechelsea 107 Posted May 16, 2013 i was very happy when i watched Morimune's bout today. He is doing well and with the help of Musashimaru he will be better. His physical strength would be a big weapon anywhere but i had to think how much better he would develop in Kokonoe for example. (Scratching chin...) Good bout to watch was the Yakabe - Takei one (win for Takei), as they both are really young but with good sumo instincts. I will be watching them both to see how they develop. Ishiura is very good but his style won't work well as he goes higher. He will eventually bulk up a bit and then maybe .... we will have another Ama in our hands. Tosayutaka is overcompensating for his loss on day1 and he is a potentially good henka victim. I really want to see the Gorilla back in an oicho-mage ... i hope it will be by the end of the year (is September possible even if he wins all his bouts till July? a 6-1 record wouldn't place him in the top 6 ranks ... right?). Asashosakari 16,827 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) I was as well astounded that Mr. Henka was allowed to sidestep again. Looks like their is not much scouting or at least pre-match briefing done in Ozumo. I think in the lower divisions rikishi are often encouraged to focus on their own sumo and not worry about their specific opponent because they're basically still in their learning phase and doing good sumo is more important than pure wins and losses. But one would hope that mindset doesn't persist into high makushita... Sadly, as I was fearing four basho ago Shoho is probably going to henka himself to juryo eventually. (is September possible even if he wins all his bouts till July? a 6-1 record wouldn't place him in the top 6 ranks ... right?).Not even top 15, Ms47w 6-1 -> ~Ms21. aderechelsea 107 Posted May 16, 2013 so it's December at best for him. If he goes back to his previous form this shouldn't be a problem. Well .... maybe top makushita can be tricky sometimes.
