I think Daikiho is having the worst makuuchi debut that I can personally remember...

I know what you mean, but the worst Makuuchi debut I can remember is Towanoyama's.

Well, true, but an injury is an injury (I also remember Masunoyama's more recent bad luck in his debut)... Daikiho seems to be fine physically, just performing really bad...

I have to admit i didn't think Kisenosato would have beaten Harumafuji today, and certainly not by making it look easy as he did, i'm impressed, thing is though Hakuho's fire is on fire, and i think he'l take the Yusho.

Kisenosato is looking beastlike.... he will likely run through Kotoshogiku. This Yusho is anyone's to take at this point

Aioyama won't be winning any Oscars with that performance.

Oh boy, Harumafuji really wanted to give the right inside to the Kid, didn't he... (Sigh...)

Kise was considerably ahead on the tachi-ai. It was all downhill from there.

No, no, no, anytime something happens that will be appreciated by the audience in some way, it's been engineered. Anything else is completely impossible.

Yep, he just looks totally in the zone. His whole career has been periods of improvement followed by plateaus where he stagnates for a while. Maybe he's just reached that point where he can finally get to the next level? I'm happy to call shenanigans on the Osh match because Aioyama couldn't have tried any less, but the Kise one looked completely legit. Let's see if he can handle the pressure and get to the final day unbeaten

From now on, I only see a possibility in Hakuho beating Kise, anyone of the two remaining Ozeki managing to best him would be a HUGE surprise for me..

Nobody's remembering Daimanazuru? For shame...

I wanted to say something similar, but I prefer this link.

The way Daikiho is going, he has a real chance of out-performing them all...

Or maybe in-performing, given the direction...

There is one handy rule for the guts-based gamer: Rikishi in a division debut tend to be quite successful, except when they are oldies who just got promoted as part of the typical ebb and flow movements in a career. Compared to other low-performing debutants, Daikiho is really exceptional as he is so young (23).

I don't know if I agree with that...

Unexpected leading with 12-0 is the perfect moment to finish with 12-3 :-P

I saw Moti's video just now and take everything back. It looked quite dodgy for me seeing it live, but now I will gladly renounce.

(Glad to see though that not only my reflexes seem to be in good shape, eh?)

Isn't he Hakuho's favourite spank toy for keiko? He's probably burned out by the time a basho comes around.

That remembers me of Ryuo... he at least had a 10-5 makuuchi debut.

Yup, been there when he did - I probably jinxed him. One of the most unmongolian Mongolians ever (bodywise), too bad his neck prevented him from further glory.

Didn't Kise's beya finally agree to start going to degeiko recently? Maybe getting to beat up on someone other than Takanoyama was what Kisenosato needed?

This is the second time I've noticed what appears to be Hakuho slapping his opponent really hard in the side of their belly. Is that a common technique or just something he personally uses to break the opponent's concentration? I'll be watching for it again when he meets Kise and they get stuck in a hold.

I think he uses that slap to elicit a reaction from his opponent so he can readily counter. Hakuho is the best I've ever seen at countering others moves. It's easier said than done, but if a rikishi doesn't beat Hakuho immediately after the tachi-ai, their chances of winning decrease significantly.
