Hakuho is cruising to his 24th yusho, beating Kisenosato with a nice uwatenage. Harumafuji's stats aren't good against Kotoshogiku but now he at least is 7-4 against him in the last two years with the win today - still a long way to go to even the career 17-28 record against the ozeki. Okinoumi reached double digits as he beat Aoiyama in a spirited fight while Kitataiki is looking more like the guy from three years ago, at least resultwise, moving to 9-3 with a win over Sadanofuji. Goeido is the first sanyaku rikishi to clinch kachi-koshi as three other missed it today, and two more moved to 7-5, among them komusubi Tochiozan who has strong bouts this basho. There is only one sanyaku worse than 7-5 with Aminishiki, but the aging komusubi is still fighting, going from 3-7 to 5-7, beating Tokitenku today. He still has tough opponents left with possibly Baruto and Toyonoshima, but tomorrow he gets another break against Aran against whom he is 5-1.

Azumaryu stumbled against Daikiho as he nad no defense against the tsuki attack from the makuuchi bound college rikishi. Kyokushuho beat his Mongolian senpai Asasekiryu in the pursuer matchup to join the lead at 10-2. Asahisho and Nionoumi lost and probably are out of the yusho race now. Lead juryo Kotoyuki had a 0-6 start but actually is still alive in the makuuchi promotion race as he improved to 5-7 by now. The two J3 Chiyootori and Asahisho didn't help their promotion cases with losses to endangered makuuchi rikishi.
