Doitsuyama 1,157 Posted May 23, 2004 (edited) Hakuho had a quick win against Hokutoriki to get a 12-3 final record in his first Makuuchi basho and inject new life into the yusho race. Yokozuna Asashoryu capitalized on that opportunity and cleanly took out Chiyotaikai and in the playoff Hokutoriki for his third consecutive yusho and seventh overall. Hokutoriki now has to be content with winning his career third jun-yusho and getting his sansho number two and three. Hakuho got the kanto-sho for getting 10 wins or more as shin-Makuuchi, a mark he easily fulfilled. I think he is the first shin-Makuuchi below 20 years old since Taiho to win twelve. Tamanoshima won and got a 12-3 too, his award for this fine performance was the gino-sho. No Makuuchi rikishi got 11-4 as Kokkai lost. Ozeki Kaio, Iwakiyama and Kotoryu join the Georgian in double digits. Takekaze also had a good basho finishing with an ipponzeoi win to reach 9-6. The Juryo yusho was decided without a kettei-sen as Tokitenku beat Ama while Toyonoshima lost to Otsukasa. The other young prospects Kasugao, Kotooshu and Hagiwara lost as well. Three current and former Makuuchi rikishi retired this basho with Namioka, Hamasu and Aga; you can guess who they are. Four more rikishi should be dropped to Juryo next basho with Ushiomaru, Kasuganishiki, Kobo and Asanowaka. Toki and Harunoyama with 4-11 at M10 are borderline cases. Kasugao, Toyozakura, Otsukasa, Wakatoba will get promoted with Roho and Tokitenku as borderline cases. It maybe they both get promoted with a Toki demotion. The Juryo lead rikishi Tamakasuga had an impressive second week with 7-1, but too late to reach Makuuchi after the 0-7 start. -- Doitsuyama Day 15 Juryo Ms7w Kotokanyu (4-3) shitatenage J14w Wakakosho (7-8) J14e Tochifudo (4-11) yoritaoshi Ms6e Masutsuyoshi (1-5-1) J13e Daishodai (6-9) oshidashi Ms1w Maikaze (3-4) Ms4e Ishide (3-4) hikiotoshi J12e Dewanofuji (3-12) J8w Wakanoyama (10-5) oshidashi J10e Kotooshu (10-5) J10w Tokitenku (12-3) hatakikomi J7e Ama (6-9) J6w Roho (10-5) yorikiri J6e Takanotsuru (8-7) J9w Sumanofuji (6-9) tsukidashi J5e Chiyotenzan (6-9) J4e Kaido (4-11) yorikiri J4w Oikari (3-12) J3w Wakatoba (9-6) tsukidashi J11e Hamanishiki (9-6) J2w Otsukasa (9-6) shitatenage J13w Toyonoshima (11-4) J7w Gojoro (7-8) yorikiri J2e Kasugao (10-5) J1w Toyozakura (9-6) sukuinage J12w Hagiwara (9-6) J1e Tamakasuga (7-8) hatakikomi J9e Bushuyama (6-9) Makuuchi M17e Kobo (5-10) kotenage J5w Kitazakura (5-10) M14w Asanowaka (4-11) oshidashi J3e Yotsukasa (6-9) M9e Kotoryu (10-5) oshidashi M16w Takanowaka (8-7) M8e Takekaze (9-6) ipponzeoi M13w Kinkaiyama (8-7) M7w Kyokushuzan (9-6) yorikiri M11w Hayateumi (8-7) M6w Iwakiyama (10-5) oshidashi M12w Jumonji (8-7) M5w Tamanoshima (12-3) yorikiri M12e Kaiho (9-6) M5e Kotonowaka (8-7) oshidashi M15w Futeno (7-8) M10w Toki (4-11) oshitaoshi M4w Takamisakari (6-9) M11e Aminishiki (8-7) shitatenage M4e Tokitsuumi (7-8) M3e Shimotori (7-8) yorikiri M3w Dejima (7-8) M8w Tochisakae (7-8) tsukiotoshi M2w Kakizoe (6-9) M2e Asasekiryu (3-12) uwatenage M6e Buyuzan (4-11) M16e Hakuho (12-3) hikiotoshi M1w Hokutoriki (13-2) M1e Tochinonada (5-10) sukuinage M10e Harunoyama (4-11) K1w Kotomitsuki (9-6) oshidashi M7e Kokkai (10-5) M9w Tosanoumi (7-8) yorikiri K1e Miyabiyama (3-12) S1e Wakanosato (9-6) oshidashi S1w Kyokutenho (6-9) O1w Kaio (10-5) sukuinage O2e Musoyama (6-9) Y1e Asashoryu (13-2) yorikiri O1e Chiyotaikai (9-6) Makuuchi yusho ketteisen Y1e Asashoryu yorikiri M1w Hokutoriki List of Yusho Jonokuchi: Dewaotori Jonidan: Asahimaru Sandanme: Azumao Makushita: Juzan Juryo: Tokitenku (1st) Makuuchi: Asashoryu (7th) List of Sansho Shukun-sho: Hokutoriki (1st) Kanto-sho: Hokutoriki (2nd), Hakuho (1st) Gino-sho: Tamanoshima (1st) Edited May 23, 2004 by Doitsuyama
