Forum Update Feedback

Recommended Posts

So why exactly has it stopped working at this juncture? Presumably all of our browsers have suddenly stopped working?

There are three reasons I can think of. Either the images used to have a fixed height attribute, the page now finishes loading faster than it used to (i.e. before the images are fully loaded), or the images are loaded asynchronously (using AJAX). IPS support techs stated that there hasn't been a change to the way images are handled, though.

Then again, it might have something to do with increased solar activity, who knows.

New ignored users are (I think) handled differently than before. By default you can still see the posts and you have to switch to "Hide" manually in the overview of ignored users, which somehow defies the purpose of the function in the first place.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the update(s) since my problem is happening only since yesterday. The "View New Content" page practically is my start page to the forum, and since yesterday I only get back "Sorry, no new content found.", even when there actually is new content. Anyone else seeing this?

Check the left side. You may have accidently picked the wrong criteria.

Thanks. "Just items I follow" was checked. That must truly have been a weird accident.

The much anticipated version 3.4.3 has finally arrived -- and just in time for the basho, too. (Holiday feeling...) Most of the previously mentioned bugs have been fixed and there shouldn't be any major issues with this version. Let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary.

But Alas!

As I typed my last post enthusiastically and awarded you with a Like, I instantly noticed that said Like is displayed differently. It used to say something like "You like this" or "You, XYZ, OPQ and five others like this" etc. Now, I just can see the Unlike button.

Trying to gather further information, I wanted to see another (past) post that I liked. So I went to my profile and the Likes section, and: The option to see an overview of Likes given has disappeared.

This is not life threatening, I agree, but puts me in a rather solemn mood concerning the things that might come.

Oh, and the post counter is now fucked (excuse my Bulgarian).

When I make a post, my newly posted post shows the new count, while all the posts above on the same page don't get actualized and still show the old number. OK, I thought, this is a problem of how the pages get refreshed after a new post.

Then I tried to see what happens, when I delete this new post. The page gets refreshed differently then, and the old posts now show the value that would have been correct after posting, not deleting.

Even after strolling around a bit on the site, the postcount then stays incorrect. The deleted post stays registered. Now, I'm not 100% sure if this was not the case before. In any case, the reloading of the page after posting is now showing different/buggie behavior.

I was able to fix the former issue. As for the latter, it looks like Invision decided that you don't need that feature.

Ahem, there are still a couple of issues with the RTE. Color me surprised. (Sigh...)

I can't seem to replicate that. Now, naturally, in my three four last attempts to do so I encountered another bug, namely that my post doesn't show up without a manual refresh. But I'll chalk that up to cached javascript files. Anyway, if anyone -- Bulgarian or not -- is able to confirm the existence of such a bug, I'll look into it.

Deleting posts has never decreased the post counter.

A day or two ago when I signed on I got a message that I had garnered some 'Likes' in a particular Forum -- but when I checked to find out which message had found favour, there wasn't a 'Like' button at all. Not that I'm narcissistic, but it's nice to know what people find interesting.

About the ol' new-post-positioning issue in huge threads:

It works sometimes, and sometimes not. My observation is that it does not work when there is only one unread post in the thread. (Can anyone confirm?)

Anyhow, there's a simple fix: just hit refresh after loading is done.

For me, the behavior of the Like feature seems to be fixed with Exil's modifications.

If this works, I will build you a shrine.

Re: Post counts. If the Deleting Posts/Counter behavior is the same as before and post counter/page refreshing is now only just implemented negligently -> works for me.

Then a miracle has just occured, as the option has reappeared.

It just worked for me. I think a shrine might be necessary.

I just falsified your theory as it loaded like it should in a thread with exactly one addition, and the other way around with multiple new posts.

On the bright side, your method of simply reloading the page is a winner! So where do you want your shrine?

[And a big F**k you! to the board developers for being unable to a) acknowledge the problem and b) find a simple code solution for what we can achieve by pressing F5]

I am not allowed to "like" anyone's posts. A pop-up tells me that I've reached my quota of positive feedback for the day (which is, apparently, nil)...
