I don't think Hoshikabuto will be back - I heard his danpatsu-shiki was held at the heya about a month ago.

Yes it was. Too bad, he was a very good tsukebito for Kakuryu all the time.

That's right, he didn't appear. I just was wondering cause he was feeling good and wanted to do his best the other day. Maybe injured during keiko in the morning, I don't know.

They are so sneaky about that - I checked the list after day 1 happened too!

As expected Baruto is kyujo for Day 3. No word yet on whether he might be able to re-enter later, but I doubt he will. Goeido gets the fusensho.

I've also heard Asasekiryu is out too, I don't know the reason. If confirmed, Wakanosato will get the fusensho.

Old ankle injury.

The officially sprained right ankle is said to need two weeks treatment.

Juryo often return later in a basho after withdrawing, but it seems a lot less common for Makuuchi level rikishi to do so. Is that because a Makuuchi ranked would only withdraw if it was far too serious to continue?

The makuuchi->juryo drop in status and payment is much less severe than the juryo->makushita drop.

Daidou left ankle injury- kyujo a very high probability. When asked how he was, he said he was OK but was grimacing and hopped on one foot to the awaiting taxi. Oops, air raid siren-back in a minute..

Ok, nothing happened.

Just noticed a bit of news that fell through the cracks - Azumazeki-oyakata (ex-Ushiomaru) is absent from his judging duties this basho due to "ossification of the thoracic posterior longitudinal ligament" leading to numbness of the legs when sitting down for long periods of time. Azumazeki is serving as arena security instead, with Sendagawa-oyakata (ex-Toki) taking up his shimpan spot.

A surgery is planned for December 25, meaning Azumazeki will most likely not be on judging in Hatsu as well; he's hoping to be back for the March tournament.

And another one - tate-yobidashi Hideo was absent from the first three days due to a hematoma near his left eye after falling down on Friday before the basho.
