Tsubame 359 Posted October 2, 2012 It is important for yokozunas to establish early a common accepted disease for going kyuju in bashos that are not going well! ;-)
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 2, 2012 recent pictures of Harumafuji Still having difficulties on the 27th to get used to the dohyo-iri.
ryafuji 811 Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) He always be Ama to me. When I am cheering him on at a basho, I can't bring myself to yell Harumafuji; it's always Ama. Of course, no need to cheer him on as much I guess, as he isn't supposed to the underdog anymore.. I wonder if he would be offended if he heard you?! don't really get this nostalgia for the Ama shikona; personally I think Harumafuji is much better. At least you don't still insist on calling him Ama in your posts; one or two others round here do and I find it rather irritating. yorikiried by fate 2,010 Posted October 3, 2012 Just imagine that there are people out there who just got to know and love the guy as Prince and therefore won't even consider using TAFKAP. Works for me.
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 3, 2012 On the 3rd Harumafuji restarted keiko "Doing shiko stamping etc. felt good", butsukari-geiko and other things for light adjustment. About the ear he firmly said "Daijoubu desu (it's OK)". On the 6th the autumn jungyo starts: "Doing keiko like always. As time allows doing fan-service and heighten the mood." Returning to his apartment from the heya yesterday Going to the first keiko after promotion
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 4, 2012 Harumafuji has no plans for a visit to Mongolia: "No time for that. Because I have to do keiko." He fears the fatigue after promotion. Asashoryu and Hakuho had a bad basho because of promotion fatigue.
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 5, 2012 Harumafuji on the 5th did 20 bouts tachi-ai keiko with Homarefuji during asageiko and then went to Nagano for the start of the Aki jungyo on the 6th. Looking at the video of his dohyo-iri: "Fine that I did nothing wrong. From now on I want refine it further."

Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 10, 2012 Harumafuji got a phone call from the Mongolian president on the 9th, congratulations for yokozuna promotion. After that an invitation to the Mongolian embassy in Tokyo. Keiko he did again with Homarefuji, 20 bouts tachi-ai practise. Former decathlon national champion and TV talento Takei (39) visiting Isegahama-beya and getting instructions after keiko finished on the 10th. With Harumafuji and Aminishiki.
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 11, 2012 Harumafuji so far will get 4 sets of kesho-mawashi. 3 in all from the Tokyo and the Kanagawa heya-koenkai, 1 produced by a fan from Aomori of the oyakata (Aomori shusshin) since his active days. Fitting for Aomori a nebuta design is planned. Harumafuji's promotion party is planned for the 9th of December in a hotel in Tokyo. Former decathlon national champion and TV talento Takei (39) visiting Isegahama-beya and getting instructions after keiko finished on the 10th. With Harumafuji and Aminishiki. Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 12, 2012 On the 11th Harumafuji did keiko with Takarafuji and Homarefuji, 20 bouts tachi-ai practise. Sweating with weight training and tachi-ai checking, teaching the young rikishi the right way for weight training. Trying scrupulously several ways to grab the front mawashi: "Fatigue is OK. I have to make getting the right side front mawashi a confirmed habit." Hakuho plants rice, Harumafuji wants to plant trees in Mongolia. His "godfather" chief priest Kusayama is president of the "Raise a 1000-year-forest club", which will support the idea. asa-geiko with Homarefuji

Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 13, 2012 Harumafuji wants to gain muscle mass. He will extend the 1 year contract with the Mongolian power lifter Munkh-Erdene as trainer also next year. Except for the jungyo he trains in the heya without pausing: "It's keiko, keiko. No time to go anywhere." Hakuho has now his own private gym for weight training near the heya. Usually he thought: "The body is to be drilled by keiko" and did not like weight training. This changed after his worst yokozuna record of 10 wins at the natsu basho. He began using dumbbells etc. Using genuine devices now is a first. At the 9th after keiko he went there with some young rikishi and worked hard for 30 minutes. His nutritional advisor Yamada on the day there told him also about intake of supplements for gaining muscle mass.
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 18, 2012 Harumafuji drinks Sifr-water, the 2l. bottle for 5250 yen. The heya koenkai arranges for having this yokozuna of waters in the heya, the oyakata and other sekitori drink it as well.
Jakusotsu 5,894 Posted October 18, 2012 the 2l. bottle for 5250 yen. You're kidding, right? Right? Heck, even 525 yen would be way too much...
Akinomaki 40,230 Posted October 18, 2012 the 2l. bottle for 5250 yen. You're kidding, right? Right? Heck, even 525 yen would be way too much... The Nikkan sports is sometimes wrong with their numbers, but other pages show a similar price. There seems to be some medical compounds mixed in it.
Bugman 384 Posted October 18, 2012 I passed that through a currency exchange website and it came up as a rounded-down, fourty-one British pounds or sixty-six American dollars, i wonder what's in it to cost that much.
yorikiried by fate 2,010 Posted October 18, 2012 It's probably water destilled from some ultra-rare wild animal's urine, while the critters were eating only berries from some ultra-rare bush that grows only in a single remote South-Chilean valley which is only accessible using guides who are members of an ultra-rare tribe that lives in Northern Siberia. That, or it's a publicity stunt.
Afrozuna 8 Posted October 18, 2012 My fear is HMFJ might end up overtraining in a bid to avoid the yokozuna debut jinx, only to end up injuring himself

The vendors say it has a mix of 9 types of powdered mineral natural stones (I didn't find satisfying information about what exactly ミネラル天然石 is) taken from under medicinal plants from all over the world (I still cannot imagine the production process and effect of the water, even with the explanation on this page, let alone believing anything of it). A heya supporter provides 8 bottles before each basho. They drink it also after asageiko. "It has a full taste and is delicious. The heaviness of the body is taken away, good for a hangover, too." Harumafuji drinks also milk, water mixed with Mongolian salt, keeping control of his physical condition. "If the stomach is in good form, the whole body gets into better shape." He happens to have also eaten a fukahire (shark fin) ramen for 9800 yen at a nearby China restaurant.

His power is immense. I can only imagine his strength after a good two years of lifting and taking supplements. He needs to be doing squats (although, i'm sure shiko is enough work for them), deadlifts, power cleans, overhead presses, and bench, though. Forget the dumbbells. Kotoshogiku, to escape kadoban, also has begun to do genuine weight training and has a contract with a personal trainer since after the Aki basho and he gets nutrition advice. He wants to reduce his weight from a personal top of 177kg to about 170 like when he was promoted to ozeki.

Igordemorais 75 Posted October 22, 2012 Seriously though, how can we take seriously top athletes who do not have conditioning, strength and nutrition coaches? Tradition is one thing, but ignorance is something else altogether. Or is it?
