Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted September 23, 2012 Harumafuji defeated Hakuho for the third senshuraku in a row in a rather awesome bout, carrying his win streak to 31 with his second consecutive zensho yusho and leaving no doubts about his yokozuna promotion, the first since Natsu 2012 and the third Mongolian yokozuna in a row. Kakuryu salvaged a positive 3-2 in the final third of the basho with a rather easy oshidashi win over Kisenosato who again is not looking good at the end of the basho, finishing 1-4. Okinoumi beat Tochiozan and is the only one to join Kakuryu at 11-4 as Myogiryu, Kyokutenho and Takayasu all lost, the latter two sqandering their chance for a kanto-sho with a final day win. Kyokutenho found himself in Tokyo against sekiwake Goeido on senshuraku in a fine basho, fighting for a prize... a deja-vu all over, but today he lost. Tochiozan got the shukun-sho for the kinboshi win over Hakuho while Myogiryu got his fourth gino-sho in six makuuchi basho. Goeido saved his sekiwake rank with the last-day kachi-koshi, but the two komusubi fill go down. M1 Kaisei missed the chance at kachi-koshi, losing in a komusubi playoff against Homasho, and the Brazilian will be even behind Shohozan on the next banzuke as the East M1 from Matsugane-beya won his fifth consecutive bout to finish 7-8 as well. Aminishiki will be the East komusubi next basho, earning his place with the win over Myogiryu. Takarafuji went down against an aggressive Chiyonokuni who really wanted to secure his makuuchi promotion. Kimurayama lost to Chiyotairyu and is also juryo-bound, but Tenkaiho may have saved himself with a nice yorikiri win over Yoshikaze. Fujiazuma also removed himself from demotion discussions, clinching the kachi-koshi against Wakanosato. This leaves us one demotion short for the five qualified juryo rikishi and I suspect Tenkaiho will go down, but maybe the banzuke makers do what is best for Tamawashi and leave him in juryo. Ikioi and Jokoryu both won to set up a 11-4 kettei-sen which was won by Jokoryu. Jokoru now was in a kettei-sen in all five divsions below makuuchi and won all except in jonidan exactly one year ago against Watanabe (who incidentally had a 4-3 at Ms13e following his sandanme yusho last basho). That single loss prevents him from a chance to catch up with Tochiazuma, the only rikishi yet to win a yusho in all six divisions. Tanzo finally won to get the kachi-koshi in the end as all bouts were seriously fought, leaving four of the eight 7-7 rikishi in the make-koshi dust, among them Takamisakari. BTW, I forget if we noted it at the time - Jokoryu went way beyond everybody else by participating in a playoff in 4 consecutive tournaments earlier. Nobody else even had a streak of 3.
