Ruziklao 34 Posted September 21, 2012 The results for yokozuna and ozeki in 6 basho time: I didn't get it... can you (someone else) explain your table? I have read it as (the count of yusho as ozeki / the count of yusho as yokozuna) and + means active rikishi.
Andreas21 182 Posted September 21, 2012 Harumafuji is not only fighting for Yokozuna promotion but also for the longest Ozeki winning streak and for the top ten of all winning streaks and for the rare double zensho all of which used to be strictly Dai-Yokozuna territory. So this talk of mediocre Yokozuna (if at all) is a bit off. Normally, the promotion of a mediocre Yokozuna had to be helped by the Kyuju of the other Yokozuna(s), did not happen this time. Kintamayama 44,399 Posted September 21, 2012 Normally, the promotion of a mediocre Yokozuna had to be helped by the Kyuju of the other Yokozuna(s), did not happen this time. He did it with three Ozeki missing, all of which he would have had to face. Still, almost every Yokozuna promotion happens when key top figures are out.
Masumasumasu 902 Posted September 21, 2012 Sorry to bring up yesterday's news but upon review of the slow motion replay, it is intuitively obvious that Henka-ho COCKED his arm arm and threw the elbow ON PURPOSE. Watch from 5:18: This isn't Ali vs. Frasier. This isn't the UFC. The Yokozuna has become the bad guy.

I don't think anyone is denying that Harumafuji is putting on a stellar performance. The question for me is if he'll manage to continue on the same level? I guess we'll only see that next basho. He shouldn't be denied yokozunahood based on if's though.
Jaak 7 Posted September 21, 2012 The results for yokozuna and ozeki in 6 basho time: I didn't get it... can you (someone else) explain your table? I have read it as (the count of yusho as ozeki / the count of yusho as yokozuna) and + means active rikishi. The first is actually the count of all makuuchi yusho as not yokozuna - including yusho as ozeki, but also yusho as sanyaku or maegashira.

Kintamayama 44,399 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) The Harumafuji question was aptly addressed by Tamanoi Oyakata, IIRC. "As long as he's healthy, he'll be OK. The problems will begin if he gets injured-because of his relative light weight, he will not be able to rely on his sheer weight to cover for an injury as many heavier rikishi do. Without his speed and technique, it's going to be hard". Edited September 21, 2012 by Kintamayama
Andreas21 182 Posted September 21, 2012 Still, almost every Yokozuna promotion happens when key top figures are out. Hakuho being one of the exceptions! (But not Asashoryu and Takanohana)
Asojima 2,871 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) Day 14. An amazing recovery by Jd83 Oshio in his match against Jd88 Hasegawa. I am waiting to see what kimarite they give this one . It sounded like they called it an Izori. Edited September 22, 2012 by Asojima

Jakusotsu 5,817 Posted September 22, 2012 Still, almost every Yokozuna promotion happens when key top figures are out. Hakuho being one of the exceptions! (But not Asashoryu and Takanohana) Well, you could make an argument that Hakuho's ride was just as easy as Harumafuji's. Granted, there were three other Ozeki instead of two today, but Asashoryu went on self-destruct at the end of the basho.
nodogoshi 7 Posted September 22, 2012 Firstly, this is my first post so hello to everyone. I just tuned in to today's match in time to see Jokoryu win his bout. Looks like an interesting day of matches atop the juryo standings, with rikishi in each of the final 4 bouts (beginning with Jokoryu) all vying for the championship, each coming in at 9-4. Great stuff.
Asojima 2,871 Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) There are 9 makuuchi rikishi going into senshuraku with a 7-7 record, and only 2 of them are matched together. Edited September 22, 2012 by Asojima

kuroimori 1,634 Posted September 22, 2012 Whoa, Hakuho just performed the mother of all slap downs - looked like Kise would crush right through the clay surface surface and take a sip of the sacred sake that is kept inside the dohyo.... again a display of high intensity by the yokozuna
Igordemorais 75 Posted September 22, 2012 That is the third day in a row in which Hakuho throws that violent upper arm strike on the tachi-ai. He uses his left arm to touch the opponent so as to get balance and direct himself better, then smashes right in there with that right arm. Smells like bullshit to me. Anyway tomorrow we have the H-bomb versus Hakuho as pissed as I've ever seen him be. This will be good!
Igordemorais 75 Posted September 22, 2012 Henka-ho tried knocking out Kisenosato with that same elbow nonsense. Just like a wounded animal. Looks like its time for the ill-mannered Yokozuna to retire in shame. Hakuho clearly is a reprobate, through and through.
