Akinomaki 39,933 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) Masunoyama (21) got a new kesho mawashi from his local koenkai with the image character of his home town Chiba, Sakae-cho, the dream dragon mascot Drum/Doramu: D(o)ra<gon><Drea>m(u). The source is that during the Nara period, when the town suffered from a drought, the legend tells that a dragon rose to the sky and let it rain (which is the profession of the Asian dragons). Masunoyama: "Following this, I want to rise up the banzuke. I want to reach sanyaku." He will rise up to the upper half of maegashira next basho (w13 with 11 wins). "I will meet strong opponents, therefore I want to do my sumo with all my strength." Edited October 13, 2020 by Akinomaki
Itachiyama 108 Posted August 18, 2012 The pics of many Sekitori on the Kyokai's homepage has been updated. Finally, Yokozuna Hakuho is not shown anymore with the Kesho-Mawashi of fromer Yokozuna Yoshibayama,a out of Miyagino-beya. (After 5 years!!) The Kesho-Mawashi Hakuho he is wearing there seems to be brand new. As far as I know it's his 8th Kesho-Mawashi-Set as Yokozuna! Igordemorais 75 Posted August 18, 2012 I love this guy. Brazilian fans go crazy about "Lungie". I'm straight up 100% Masunoyama fan club! And that is a sweet outfit also!
Akinomaki 39,933 Posted August 19, 2012 More of the Doramu kesho mawashi for Masunoyama. With the good performance in the Nagoya-basho, the number of koenkai members (indivdual, corporations and associations) rose from about 110 to 200.

Itachiyama 108 Posted August 21, 2012 Can somebody identify the sponsors and give some informations about the Kesho-Mawashi with the Kabuki motive?
Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted August 21, 2012 Can somebody identify the sponsors and give some informations about the Kesho-Mawashi with the Kabuki motive? I can't say more except that some blatant googling gives the information that カネカQH is this, apparently a nutritional supplement with the ever popular Q10 coenzyme (but then again, everything I wrote might be wrong). Even for some rikishi like Kokkai or Miyabiyama who hadn't had an update in nearly 10 years... Kokkai's picture was updated at least once, but it always was with the same k-mawashi, despite he have four different pieces. http://kesho-mawashi.blogspot.co.il/search/label/Kokkai?m=0 I still didn't update the new picture from nsk site (with the same k-mawashi of course :)) Edited August 22, 2012 by Koukai
Asashosakari 18,868 Posted August 27, 2012 (edited) What on Earth is that on Oniarashi's new kesho pic? Edited August 27, 2012 by Asashosakari
Mukonoso 273 Posted August 27, 2012 That's a really buff red oni. Hmmm, Oniarashi... is "demon storm" an unusual wrestler name?
Asashosakari 18,868 Posted August 27, 2012 Hmm, apparently the Kyokai were as flabbergasted as I was, his profile pic has been rolled back to the old one. I've replaced the image link above.
Akinomaki 39,933 Posted August 31, 2012 The first kesho-mawashi for Dakiho from his university Nichidai. Hakuho, who scouted him and was present at the ceremony - rare for a yokozuna, expects him to go through juryo in one basho.
Akinomaki 39,933 Posted September 1, 2012 Daikiho gets 4 kesho-mawashi, a rare number for a new juryo. About 200 people at the juryo promotion party in the kokugikan. Hakuho: "He gives the heya a good mood, his keiko is passionate, I think living up to expectations and becoming yokozuna, ozeki would be fine."
Akinomaki 39,933 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Daikiho gets 4 kesho-mawashi, a rare number for a new juryo. From his Tottori Johoku high school, Nichidai, the koenkai of the heya and from broadcast writer Osamu Suzuki, on friendly terms with Hakuho. The last will show the hi-no-tori (fire-bird/phoenix), central work of manga artist Osamu Tezuka. Akinomaki 39,933 Posted September 2, 2012 Hakuho with talento artist Tsurutaro Kataoka after the soken, in the sumo museum. Kataoka will design a set of kesho-mawashi for Hakuho, to be ready next spring. It will be presented by the new Hakuho Nagoya koenkai, formed in July.
Asashosakari 18,868 Posted November 12, 2012 Looks like the Kyokai have decided to overhaul the rikishi picture style on their site for the first time in over a decade. The white half-frame and the shikona inset are gone: 25 of the new pictures are currently viewable in the rikishi profiles on sumo.goo. The new pics for the other 45 current sekitori are already posted in a "secret" location though and will probably replace the remaining old-style images before long, too.
