Shimanoumi gets a new one from his hometown Shima, Mie. Till the 1st it is on display at the city hall. It shows a spiny lobster, with eyes of extra large pearls, and also in the waves some pearls are used. In the part above, usually folded and unseen, a dragon design is used - with the hope that he rises up the banzuke like a rising dragon. http://www.isenp.co.jp/2018/06/27/19660/

Takayasu today received a new kesho mawashi, from Pressance Corporation (real estate). It shows a hermit crab, in gold colored embroidery on a dark ultramarine background. He plans to use it at the Nagoya-basho.

Yes, yes, they are called "lobster", but we both know that's just another name for what we call Langusten. Not related to the real thing ;-)

However, the mawashi's killer.

They are most closely related by means of the the order decapoda, so as Benihana says, they're not related to the real lobsters. Though there are many different species of lobster and they come in all sorts of colours.

Chiyonoumi has a third kesho-mawashi, featuring a katsuo (skipjack tuna) which his home prefecture Kochi is famous for. It was intended to be ready from the start, but Kochi has been badly affected by the recent heavy rainfall and flooding in Japan, so the kesho-mawashi was stuck in transit for a while. Chiyonoumi is wearing it as a gesture of thanks for the support he has received from home.

Meanwhile the other shin-Juryo Churanoumi also has a shusshin-inspired kesho-mawashi, a lovely design featuring coral and starfish of Okinawa.

The kesho mawashi for Churanoumi from Tottori high school gets sent to him just in time to use it on day 15. It shows an eagle carrying the school emblem, in flight before a red sun on white by4OltvtZz7taxuQtkiP3A_24x24.png -  a design by Tottori born artist Masaki Tanikawa.

Headmaster and sumo club head coach Ishiura presented it on the 19th: "His sumo is not power but using skill. Like this eagle I want him to aim for higher." http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/local/tottori/news/20180719-OYTNT50236.html

Chiyonoumi had learned that on that day was the funeral of a fellow high school sumo club member, who had died in the torrential rain disaster. He used this kesho mawashi instead of as planned the one from Nittaidai, together with a win as condolences to his friend. http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASL7L5G80L7LOIPE02J.html

That kesho-mawashi wasn't quite ready in time, but Hakuyozan has another which was revealed at his Juryo promotion party, held earlier at Tas Park Hotel in Nagai, Yamagata prefecture.

The OBs of Mitakeumi's middle school sumo club want to give him a kesho mawashi and have called for contributions, 5000 yen per person, also from externals. Mitakeumi has 5 kesho mawashi so far - while from high school and university is quite common, one from middle school is not.

The design for the new kesho-mawashi for Mitakeumi: the school emblem and motto on the school color, with the present name:  木曽町中学校 Kiso town middle school - changed from Fukushima middle school. Costs of about 1.5 million yen, it is planned to be ready mid December. The call for donations is still end of the year. https://www.shimintimes.co.jp/news/2018/09/post-1942.php

Chiyonoumi on the 26th from his locals got not a fish but a katsuo fishing boat kesho mawashi - and the fresh fishes - at the (2nd) juryo promotion party in his hometown Kuroshio town - the town to catch katsuo provided by the Kuroshio current. The boat is shown with the big catch flags hoisted.

Tomokaze has two kesho-mawashi available for his Juryo debut, with a third already designed for the future. The first is the standard Nittai-dai alumni design.

The second was given by Infinity Enterprises, Inc. and features their sports nutrition brand Musashi.

Finally, his hometown Kawasaki koenkai will give him one featuring the 'kaze' kanji written by an interesting calligrapher called Sezaki, who was diagnosed with autism as a child and rarely spoke. His parents took him to all kinds of activities to try and get him active and expressing himself, such as music and sports, but calligraphy caught his eye. Exhibitions of his work have been held in recent years. I don't know when this kesho-mawashi will be ready but it should look something like this.

Tochinoshin got a kesho-mawashi from Fujicco for Caspian sea yogurt Caspia, with the slogan "persistence win" ねばり勝ち nebari-gachi. Nebari for yogurt means a sticky consistency. Tochinoshin eats two 400g packs a day: "It tastes similar to the one my grandma used to make." He plans to use the kesho-mawashi for the last 5 days, when "Persisting is crucial." He got it with the expectation of the company that he'll get the most wins of the year - he's leading now with 51 wins (Mitakeumi 46) and co-leader Kakuryu is out - http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&columns=6&sum_wins=40&sum_range=6&show_sum=on&form1_year=2018&form1_m=on&sort_by=sum_wins
