Takagenji gets one for return to juryo from the new koenkai to support local rikishi (created to evade the rule that rikishi below juryo can't have a personal one).

Personal koenkai are a privilege of sekitori, but the lower ranked rikishi can have a local koenkai as well, one that simply supports all local rikishi - and be it just 1. Sometimes at a locality this is done by a support group for all athletes of the area. A new one for Oyama-city, Tochigi was created today, to support the young Taka twins and Kanryu from Arashio-beya. One reason is likely that Takagenji is now one step away from sekitori.

It shows the Oyama city symbols, the Omoigawa cherry blossoms https://www.city.oyama.tochigi.jp/gyosei/shokai/hanakitori.html

Takanosho's first two kesho-mawashi have been revealed. The first one is from the local koenkai of his hometown, Kashiwa in Chiba prefecture, as he is the first shin-Juryo from the city in nearly 44 years, following former Sekiwake Kirinji.

The main image was drawn by rikishi-turned-artist Kototsurugi, who made his debut in the same basho as Chiganoura-oyakata (former Komusubi Takamisugi). Some of you might remember seeing the original version before actually, it was one of the static images shown during shimpan changeovers on the old Kyokai livestream.

Takanosho's second kesho-mawashi is from his personal supporters and features the last kanji of his shikona, meaning victory.

wani means crocodile, Kashiwa-ni means in/to Kashiwa - the wani calls to "Come to Kashiwa!"

Ryuden, the new Kofu sight-seeing ambassador, got the promised new kesho mawashi for makuuchi promotion - from his new Yamanashi koenkai, formed last November. The design is simply a dragon (Ryu-) scale pattern of Koshu (=Yamanashi) inden traditional local leather products. http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/sumo/20180111-OHT1T50212.html

I thought it only looks like inden, but that part of the kesho mawashi really is inden - it is very rare to have a kesho mawashi made with leather - black deer leather it is, and lacquer for the dragon scale pattern. "I'd like to be know as the inden Ryuden"

A video of the presentation is at: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/lnews/kofu/20180112/1040001326.html

Is there a repository/collection of high resolution kesho mawashi pics on the internet? This is a great thread to see them, but I am wondering if there is a website that lists all the kesho-mawashi on one page and then I could click and view whichever one I want.

Not high resolution and only what had been on the NSK site for the rikishi, but at least you have many accessible on one page http://kesho-mawashi.blogspot.com/

I have posted an overview of older ones in another thread:

Naya came to the presentation of the new recruits with on old kesho mawashi of grandpa Taiho and Hoshoryu with a new one, of new juryo Akua.

l.jpg

It shows a carp rising (thus the koinobori), and it is said that the rising carp makes it into a dragon eventually -  the -shoryu in Hoshoryu is a rising dragon (to the sky, where he turns into a tornado) - not the blue dragon of his uncle - so it fits.

I think all rikishi should have at least one kesho mawashi with a fish on it.

Like already prepared, Takayoshitoshi gets the new kesho mawashi to have it a twin set - and it says Takayoshitoshi support club as the donor - the same donor may pose under different names for different purposes. The matching one shows a stork rising from the Watarase anti-flood pond.

The red kesho-mawashi at the far end is from his high school alma mater, Tottori Johoku.

Meanwhile, the one with (I assume?) a wolf is from Osaka Sanitary Co., Ltd. It was presented to Mitoryu by the company president, Tomosaburo Uno, a long-time supporter of Nishikido-oyakata I believe.

Ishiura got a new kesho mawashi from his Tottori koenkai at a kesho mawashi donation party, with about 400 supporters. The design is a local myth, the white Hare of Inaba, having to cope with monster sharks.

That kesho-mawashi wasn't quite ready in time, but Hakuyozan has another which was revealed at his Juryo promotion party, held earlier at Tas Park Hotel in Nagai, Yamagata prefecture.

Meanwhile, an unusual gift was sent by Takadagawa-beya's Kyushu koenkai - a giant loaf of bread with Hakuyozan's name on it, is in fact hollow and contained many small sandwiches, eagerly devoured by the rikishi following keiko. (Pictures in the box as it's off topic)

The loaf? Looks like a genetic engineering experiment with sperm whales went horribly wrong. Remember Alien 4 and the Ripley clones?

Whoever did the kanji on the loaf/alien did a great job :-) Especially regarding the character 鷹 (ヨウ) or the yō part of Hakuyozan's shikona...that's a character with 24 strokes and it looks really good, especially since it's been written with bread (Laughing...)
