Is chanko nabe really good?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I can ask my mother-in-law to try and prepare some the next time I'm in Itami, but I wonder if it non-Japanese would actually like it enough to pay for it in a restaurant run by former rikishi. If I make it over to Osaka next March for the basho I'm thinking about looking for a chanko restaurant called Waka in the nearby Dotonbori area. Supposedly it is part of a chain owned by the former Wakanohana. It does look a bit on the pricey side.

Does anyone know what wait time is like to get into one of these places? Is it worse during basho time?

I saw it in Anthony Bourdain when he visited Japan, way before I heard of sumo, and I thought this thing seems damn delicious!
