Yokozuna/Ozeki preparendum - Aki 2012

Recommended Posts

Harumafuji is studying videos to learn a special move by yokozuna Chiyonofuji, to help him get to yokozuna himself. Grabbing with the left the mawashi front and going forward instantly.

The jungyo ended on the 12th, from the 13th on the keiko in the heya pauses and he wants to return to Mongolia.

While in Mongolia, Harumafuji plans to dine with former Asashoryu, Mongolian Wrestling Association president.

This is a chance to get some advice for getting to yokozuna.

He wants to visit the grave of his father, who died in 2006 in a traffic accident. The treatment of his left ankle is also planned.

Kisenosato was impressed by boxing gold medallist Murata, who is the same age, 26.

Kisenosato's father was amateur boxer and by him he was told how to punch.

He continued with training from the 13th on, directly after the jungyo.

He said he was a bit tired, but this day he did 29 bouts with Takayasu and Takanoyama.

Hakuho restarted keiko on the 17th. After the jungyo finish on the 12th he was in Karuisawa with the family: "Resting was refreshing".

Watching the Olympics was difficult because of the time difference, but he said "Magnificient" about the gold medal by female wrestler Yoshida, with which he is on friendly terms.

Hakuho happy about the success of Yoshida

He got a mail with a picture of Yoshida with the gold medal from an acquaintance at the Japanese wrestling association. He carries it for luck.

Harumafuji restarting keiko on the 18th, directly after the return from Mongolia in the night: "I'm tired. I slept the whole time on the plane."

Former Asashoryu told him "I believe in you" and is said to plan to come to Japan during the Aki basho for support.

Harumafuji may go for degeiko even before the banzuke publication on the 27th.

He still has pain in the back of his right hand and his left ankle but his condition like last basho is not bad.

This day he did 30 bouts with Takarafuji and Homarefuji.

Harumafuji apparently will not go to degeiko before banzuke day. Heya to which he thought to go have not started regular keiko yet. The Olympic medallists Ginza parade made him long for a Aki basho parade by him "getting applause gives one courage and hope".

Harumafuji started degeiko after all. This day he went to Izutsu-beya. Keiko was closed to the public, apparently he did 15 bouts with Kakuryu and 14 with the two sekitori from his own heya, Takarafuji and Homarefuji.

Harumafuji with a satisfactory smile: "I had a good sweat."

Kakuryu: "Compared to May he was heavier last basho. It felt (also today) that his body has grown bigger"

after degeiko

Kisenosato pays attention to his tachiai.

On the 22nd he did 29 bouts moushiai with Takayasu and Takanoyama.

Before the tachi-ai breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth, checking his foot and hand placement.

About the bout against Hakuho last basho: "Being stared at I became too passionate. I also have to strengthen the aspect of the feelings."

Not getting too absorbed, with the intention of not losing touch to himself: "Balancing fighting spirit and coolness is difficult. But I'm 26, I can't float around indefinitely."

I hope Kisenosato breaks a foot during degeiko and then falls of the dohyo and loses a limb. He is Asashoryu minus the talent and charisma, just the attitude.

On the 23rd Harumafuji again went to Izutsu-beya for degeiko with Kakuryu, 12 bouts. Towards the end of keiko Harumafuji got the head of Kakuryu against his right eye: "My vision became blurred". He stopped keiko and went to a hospital.

Isegahama-oyakata: "Not just (keiko with) the sekitori of the heya, also from now on I want to let him do de-geiko."

Edit: Thanks to Kintamayama for the corrections

A picture of Kotoshogiku is displayed since the 18th on the wall of the gymnasium in his old primary school. It shows his upper body, but still this kind of picture not for the purpose as yusho portrait is highly rare.

The schools "Oyaji"-club, parents (should be fathers only) of pupils and graduates, made the contribution for the portrait.

Kotoshogiku visits the school each year and comes into contact with the children.

In the school Kotoshogiku's hoshitori records are displayed each basho.

Oh jesus not that shit again. Get over the steroids, buddy. You are making toxic accusations without evidence against one of sumo`s greatest.

Asashoryu was an asshole. Everybody knows that. I never said otherwise. But he did have charisma, and talent. People loved his "bad boy" antics even if they detested his "terrible person" antics.

Kisenosato is a class-A, wannabe-tough-guy, tachi-ai resetting, ichiban douche and it's a shame that he's the only complete Japanese guy at that level. I love Kotoshogiku but he is a one-note samba, Mr. grip-and-bump!

Now who I'm really hoping to God will develop into that level is Myogiryu, that guy has beautiful sumo. As far as Kisenosato goes, I hope Baruto sits on his head.

Thanks again to Kintamayama for the corrections, but I can't find that post any more.

I settled with this translation

Isegahama-oyakata: "Not just (keiko with) the sekitori of the heya, also from now on I want to let him do de-geiko."

for 「部屋の関取だけじゃなく、今後も出稽古させたい」

First I thought, "After taking the two sekitori -Fuji with him, the oyakata wants makushita to go as well", but I forgot the golden rule in Japanese, always look at the end first. The whole thing is about Harumafuji and that subject stays for every part. And the end has doing keiko as the main action, that is valid for the first part of the sentence as well, internal keiko and external keiko, both are a thing to "do" in Japanese and have to be mentioned only once.

While often only giving a summary of the contents for the rest of the article, I try to keep the quotes as close to the Japanese as possible, that led to the error.

Harumafuji got the order by his oyakata to do degeiko. "Except for banzuke day, first of all I want him to go for degeiko. 'Considering by himself and adjusting' is not like a yokozuna and thus not allowed."

"Not with the attitude of becoming yokozuna, he has to do keiko focussing on the next thing."

Harumafuji stopped degeiko to Izutsu-beya because of his injured eye. He did suri-ashi and similar as light coordination on the 24th. For the second day in a row he went to a Tokyo hospital.

Isegahama-oyakata: "Since he wasn't hit directly in the eye... It will recede by itself."

Harumafuji of cause said "Daijoubu (OK)"

Harumafuji will before this basho again treated by the director of the Kumamoto osteopathic clinic in Nagoya, Yoshiyuki Higashi, who helped him last basho and the Nagoya basho last year, contributing to both of the yusho.

Dr. Higashi about Harumafuji: "Up to last time promotion to yokozuna was only a desire, this time it has become a realistic objective right before one's eyes. He himself, oyakata and o-kami-san, all have become serious."

Kisenosato will have "degeiko" for four days in a row. The Nishonozeki-ichimon rengo-geiko will be held for three days, on the 30th Matsugane-beya, 31st Takadagawa and on the 2nd Sadogatake. On the 1st the keiko soken takes place. Harumafuji also thinks about coming for degeiko. Kisenosato thus has the opportunity for high class training also with the ban of other degeiko by the late former Naruto-oyakata.

Hakuho did a dohyo-iri at the Takasago primary school in Soka, Saitama on the 25th. Tachi-mochi Kyokutenho, Tsuyu-harai Kaisei. The local youth sumo promotion club celebrates 30 years since founding by former Furiwake-oyakata (Asaarashi, Takasago-beya), a children's summer vacation chibikko sumo tournament was held there as well. Hakuho also gave keiko lessons for the kids. Towards the higher years with a proper physique: "By all means I want to scout you for Miyagino-beya", with a smile.

He said about Harumafuji: "Doing what is to be done, without regretting later, that surely are his feelings. But overdoing is also not good", he himself maintaining his own pace.
