Day 10 results and day 11 pairings, Makuuchi and Juryo

Recommended Posts

Hakuho and Harumafuji improved to 10-0, both beating an ozeki today. Kotoshogiku lost the touch with the leading duo in the process, leaving Kaisei as the sole pursuer at 9-1. Kisenosato won against Tochiozan, but at 8-2 it will be difficult for him to be a factor in the yusho race unless he beats both leaders later in the basho. Hochiyama fell to 1-9 and is already the first sure demotion to juryo.

In juryo the three leaders Jokoryu, Tokushoryu and Chiyonokuni all won against high juryo opponents, clinching kachi-koshi. Only Asahisho and Chiyootori won among the pursuers.

And the optional juryo-makushita bouts continue...don't know what's gotten into the torikumi makers, but kudos.

With four less rikishi in Juryo it would be quite sad to see a 10 match Juryo day every day, no? Public perception and all?

M14w Wakanosato (5-5) hikiotoshi M8e Yoshikaze (5-5)

Messy bout, but this was Wakanosato's 795th career win, moving him one ahead of Takanohana and into 11th place on the all-time list.

12 matches... It hasn't stopped them before.

Makekoshi decider between Arawashi and Masuraumi tomorrow, BTW - cruel but effective scheduling.

I meant 12 instead of 14 but I see your point..
